Invite family members to your place; plan to take db to see santa, and then nice dinner at home for you and dh. Open one gift on xmas eve. Go to Rockefeller Center to see xmas tree (if in NYC). Buy a gift for a kid who won't get much or anything ... Giving to others will assure that you can't feel 'too sorry' for yourself. [ Reply | More ]

We have a toto toilet (came with the house). It has a heated seat and yadda yadda yadda. Worst toilet ever! Not to get too graphic, but the way it is designed, most things get stuck on a precipice of ceramic. The water pressure is awful. It is always running. We live in LA, so who needs the damned heated seat? It has a crazy remote control, and a bidet feature but, truthfully, it is such a gross toilet I wouldn't want anything squirting from it. I find bidet culture very interesting. In my master bathroom, there are 2 separate rooms each with a toilet. One of the rooms also has a bidet in it. I thought it was overkill when I bought the house, but 2 toilets is a very good thing!!! Anyway, DH is British, so generous (and ignorant) me gave DH the room with the toilet and bidet thinking that British people use bidets. Wrong! I think I am the only one who has used it--and only in an emergency situation. It makes for a great foot soak for pedicures, though. [ Reply | More ]

It depends on the cause of the rash. If it's yeast (which is fairly common), you need an anti fungal cream. And when you change the diaper, let db hang out for a bit with no diaper on to make sure the area is totally dry before putting on the new diaper. And use a soft washcloth to wipe. [ Reply | More ]

If I am not mistaken - yeast and fungus are two different things - our ds had one where as soon as they tried one thing the other came back. Yeast is bacteria. Fungus is fungus. You need to treat them both if you're unlucky enough to get them both at the same time. Which can happen. [ Reply | More ]

2nd grade level books. I'm only asking because there is a kid in my DC's class who is reading at that level. When the teacher is reading aloud to the class, the teacher and the kid take turns reading 1 page. My DC came home and told me this, and I asked the teacher if it was true. Honestly, there are kids who just learn to read through osmosis. My sister learned when she was 3 and no one taught her and my friend's son was 2 1/2 and his parents did not teach him. Some kids just learn from everyday experiences and pick it up quickly. FWIW, my DD did not want to read and so she didn't really read until she was 5 1/2. On the other hand, my DS loves to read and he's 4. I didn't do anything different. [ Reply | More ]
