[ - ] Going to caribbean for 6 days with 4 yr old DS and 9 month old DD. Would you bring car seat/stroller with you? We have the Vista which is big and bulky but I also don't want to be carrying the baby through all meals, when it's easier to put her in the car seat. Advice? 15 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

What do you mean. You don't need a car seat to be compatible with stroller. DB goes directly in the lightweight stroller (no car seat attachment) so just bring your reg car seat for car rides and the light weight stroller for strolling [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Ladies, I need your help. I've decided that I'm no longer going to be a doormat. Dh will step up and be an equal partner in this marriage. As of now, I do drop off, pick up, groceries, pay all bills, take dc to doctor, all school related activities, get kids ready in mornings and at night. Dh does cleaning once a week and laundry. How do I stop this pattern? Right now, I told dc that daddy is putting them to bed because I'm tired. They whined about it, but here I am on UB while dh does bedtime routine. What else can I do? How should I do it? TIA! 25 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Ha. I am doing this too and today told dh everything 50-50. He was fine with it. My plan is to look at my huge to do list and give him all the stuff he can do without me and schedule a bunch of stuff we need to do together. I made some chores charts for my own reference to make sure we are trading off on cooking and cleaning. It's a start - dh was walking all over me. All he had to say was okay! [ Reply | More ]

I completely empathize as I was you (plus nanny) in stressful job while DH was in residency. Much better now that he is done and he has taken over bills and helps with drop off, groceries, lunch, bed time, etc. I still do lion's share but at least he's willing to help. Are there chores your DH doesn't mind - laundry, bills? Maybe he doesn't like schlepping kids around on his day off? [ Reply | More ]

You need to sit down with him at a relaxed time with a list of all the chores. Let him pick some he can do (it won't be enough) and then work out some more he can do. Then give him full responsibility for those and forget about them. If he screws up, he does. Once he "owns" certain responsibilities he will do them but don't get mad if he does them "his way". Correction: I have 4 TVs. 1 new and 3 old. One of the old ones is actually built into my dinosaur desktop computer. A few months ago, I got a virus and it killed the hard drive. For $60, I replaced the hard drive in order to save the TV, since there is no other place to put the TV in my office. I can't upgrade the operating software on the computer because it's too old, so the next time the hard drive dies, that's the end. It will be time to buy a new computer AND a new TV! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Any moms on who know about learning/sensory processing disorders? I have a friend with a DC who is very intelligent and sweet (though stubborn.) DC is complaining about being maladjusted to life. The one quirk I have always noticed about this kid is an inability to process what is said in the moment. At first I assumed it was indifference or disrespect, but then I realized: DC just wasn't taking in verbal cues. DC is a truly stellar student with no other issues up till now. Parents are concerned that it is a psychological issue, but could it just be a processing thing? If there's always a delay between what people communicate and what you take in, you're bound to feel out of whack. (And I've seen adults get upset and say thing like "Don't tell me you didn't understand me!") Anyone BTDT? 24 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

this is so timely. my dd also spent first year of life in orphanage. no evidence of lead poisoning, but she is 5 now and is starting to show signs of this. all of a sudden says she "can't hear good" when i ask her a question. and apparently has told her teacher this as well. i'm pretty sure her hearing is fine (although am having it tested) but i don't see issues with other types of hearing . i think it is processing. how did you diagnose, at what age, and what do you to to improve, or is it just compensation? I am sorry, I have to sign off in a moment. Dd diagnosed around age 5. The girl who went deaf...they are not sure. Could be genetic. It was also opined that the girls got sick in orphanage and got high doses of an antibiotic that can cause hearing loss. The other child wears hearing aids now..she does have profound loss but can hear w/the aids and is doing great. Start there with the hearing test asap and gl! [ Reply | More ]

Most of your complaints are dog-related, not apartment-related. People in houses have to pick up dog poop and walk the dog and watch food on the table, too. That said, it's a lot easier with a fenced-in yard and you can just let the dog out and not deal with a leash in the early morning or late at night! [ Reply | More ]

don't you pick up poop from the yard? And still walk the dog? We have a house and a yard and still go on walks and have to pick up poop. Only benefit is being able to stand inside when it's raining or while I'm still in pajamas and not having to worry about dealing with the leash. [ Reply | More ]

You're only thinking about the negatives. BTW, you can add expensive to that list. However, in my experience, the positives far outweigh the negatives. And you'd be surprised how little space a dog needs inside. I have an apt in the city and a home in the country. The dog, for 10 years, chose the same spot to sleep the majority of the day in either place - did not use more space in the country than in the city. And, we left the back door open all day in the country but he only went outside if we went outside or if he heard another dog barking. [ Reply | More ]

To their great grandchildren? Certainly not. First cousin relations have a lower effect on the child than teenage pregnancy.
