[ - ] DS came home upset about something and wanted to talk to only me. DH came out with his opinion, and I said: DS and I are talking about this. Could you just let us finish. He said fuck to me and to DS and stormed out to his home office. I went up and said: Why are you speaking to us like that? He said: Don't tell me when I can talk to my son. I said: He and I were speaking. He said: Don't tell me when I can talk to my son. DS came up crying and saying "This is all my fault." Now, the whole family is upset. How do I address this? DS is 14. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

question -- did your dh act like a total jerk but it's a one time thing and he just blew up, or does he pull stuff like this all the time? I would say if it's a) then he was grumpy and out of line and possibly reacted badly to feeling you were dismissing him but b) he's a jerk [ Reply | More ]

Good point. Not all the time. He's a quant guy and he wants to solve DS's problem with a nice logical discussion of factors and potential solutions. DS was just feeling down on himself and just needed someone to listen. Having DH swoop in to discuss was so not what DS needed. [ Reply | More ]

I posted earlier. My stepdad didn't have a DNR and my mom couldn't "let him go." He was on life support with a vent and dialysis for 2 months. The doctors swore up and down to her that he was in a coma, but she insisted he was still aware. In order to prove to my mom that he wasn't aware, they took out his vent and asked him to say something. He croaked "Hello" ... oh my god, he was still "there" ... my mom still couldn't bring herself to let him go and he ultimately died of organ failure a week later. But he spent those 2 months unable to move, unable to recover, unable to die. It must have been torture for someone who could still think clearly. [ Reply | More ]

A little bit, but not much, not enough. I actually found better deals 1-2 years ago when prices were overall at their height. I don't see good deals, simply put. I also don't see wages rising any time soon, so not sure how this RE market can support this. Not enough new comers buying, only those upgrading from smaller to bigger units who already had money invested in NYC or SF or similar. [ Reply | More ]

I’m not an RE mom, but I have been watching the market in my neighborhood and building. Basically, it it is priced fairly and renovated, it seems to move. Anything unrenovated needs to be deeply discounted. Buyers are not just factoring square footage, but also the increase renovation costs and interest rate hikes. I’ve seen apartments drop 300-400k. RE market in high COL places is not where I would invest, there is no place to go up because wages are not rising. Economy seems to be good, but wages are comparatively low given COL, there are jobs, but they are not high paying enough to afford to buy a place in NYC or SF. Not many people are coming from outside with bags of money. I just don't see the room for RE appreciation given that earnings are not getting higher overall, so my advice is don't buy unless you are absolutely sure you will live there for 10 years and you love the place, you won't make money on it and should be lucky to break even IMHO if you must sell in a few years. If you love the place and plan to live there for a looong time, go for it. I don't think you'd lose long term, it should keep with inflation. [ Reply | More ]

Not sure. There doesn't seem to be radiation poisoning, and it seems sudden -- not just gradual global warming. All that dust in the atmosphere though? Really don't know. [ Reply | More ]

My thought was that it was caused by a giant meteor. When you get the part with the ship, it’s suggested that it was hit by a tsunami. [ Reply | More ]

Ooh, good call. That sounds plausible, although I did kind of assume it was man-made just for the "oh God, what have we done!?" factor. But maybe I'm reading that into it. [ Reply | More ]

OR. I know. DD is 10 (almost 11) now and she could have just transitioned to the Mademoiselle line but alas, it’s gone. I also think Jacadi is too baby-ish. Zara looks nice but I don’t like the quality. Luckily she wears uniform so it’s a bit easier for us. I think JCrew is ok but not great, sometimes Benetton is nice. [ Reply | More ]

See if you like the clothes - my DD got a few summer dresses and sweaters there last season and she loves them. I haven’t tried their winter clothes since 2013 as we now live in a hot place: https://us.benetton.com/girls-dresses/ [ Reply | More ]
