Little Heroes
What do you do when your little one is demonstrating a serious inclination for all things superhero, but all you can find in the way of appropriate attire is a dishtowel cape?
If you're Jossamber Shapiro, the mother of a two-year-old with budding super powers, you create a collection of alternative superhero T-shirts with detachable capes for boys and girls sized 2 to 8 years.
Shapiro's Little Capers is a collection of 100-percent cotton, non-sweatshop produced tees in a range of bright colors and long and short sleeves. All are emblazoned with one of six power symbols – star, earth, flower, lightning bolt, heart and peace sign – and feature shimmery capes in coordinating colors. The goal of the tees is to encourage creative, imaginative play without the violence and branded images associated with traditional superhero paraphernalia. Of course, since not every occasion demands a cape (like school or dinner with the grandparents), the cloaks are attached to the T-shirts with Velcro for easy removal – and washing. A line of infant long sleeve lap T-shirts, sans capes, is also available for smaller-sized heroes-to-be ages 6 to 24 months.
As every nascent superhero knows, powers – such as the ability to fly, morph, run like the wind and see through walls – can reveal themselves at any age
