The Simple Life
Forget,
for a moment, the hi-tech stuff. The DVDs, the cell phone-directed
playdates, the online visits to PBS Kids. Theyre all great
dont get us wrong
but
what about the tried and true summer activities? The things you
used to do that made summer seem like an endless blur of swimming,
ice cream and staying up late? Here are a
few ideas.
Make lemonade and set up a stand to sell
Get some chalk for sidewalk art, or play a game of Hopscotch
Run through sprinklers
Write a letter and take a walk to the local post office to
mail
Stop by the fire station for a visit
Play cards, Checkers, or Chess
Try a new ethnic food: Indian, Thai, Sushi
Volunteer
Give each other a pedicure
Make Smores
Toss water balloons
Play Tic Tac Toe and Hangman
Find a carnival for cotton candy and jelly apples; take a
ride on the Cup & Saucer
Play Jacks, Mancala or Pickup Sticks.
Camp out in the living room with flashlights
Make your Halloween costume now so you wont rush to
the store on the 30th to buy
Read together
Dance
Collect all the loose change around the house and go out for
ice cream
Play "Telephone", or tell a story with one person
starting and another picking up from there
Have a picnic in the park
Make paper bag puppets
Go for a ride on the swings
