Glow for It

Most parents of young kids would agree – the kicking, screaming refusal to put on sunscreen is right up near the top of the list of predictable tantrums. Getting them covered is hard enough at home where no one can see you plead; out at the beach or pool it's always worse (after all, what kid doesn't love an audience?). But since most long-term sun damage happens in childhood (unbeknownst to our own parents, of course), sunscreen is one battle you simply have to win.

One way to prevail is by making it fun with GlowSmart SPF 50, a new kid-safe formula made with four types of sunscreen to protect skin from the widest possible spectrum of UVA and UVB rays. It's fortified with sweet almond oil, antioxidant vitamins, and glitter. That's right, glitter. When the lotion is applied to the skin, it sparkles with the help of mica, a harmless naturally-occurring mineral that washes off easily. Best of all, the glitter fades when it's time to reapply, letting both of you keep track of your child's sun exposure.

The product is the brainchild of Dianne York-Goldman, the CEO and President of La Jolla Spa MD in San Diego, author of several books for kids and teens including Fun in the Sun Safely, and founder of You Glow, Girl!, a line of skincare products. Her unique approach to sun safety uses fun and fashion to teach kids healthy sun habits for life.

Don't be surprised to hear your little one screaming, “Hey Mom, I need more sunscreen” next time you're at the park.

Now who's glowing?
