Earth Girl
Everywhere you look this summer, there's another article on how we're destroying the planet with plastic water bottles. What's a heavily hydrated woman to do?
Even if you just can't say "no" to bottled H2O, there's another way for expectant moms to help Mother Earth: Wear "green" maternity clothing.
Schone Maternity features natural and organic materials such as cotton, bamboo and hemp. (Bamboo has a wicking property, allowing for greater comfort on those sweaty, no-relief 90-degree days.) Schone means "clean beauty" in Dutch, and designer Rebecca Schoneveld's creations are modern and fashionable without being overly trendy.
Many of the pieces have an empire waist, which is not only the silhouette of the moment, but also a favorite of pregnant women. And if this season's pale yellow isn't exactly your color, you'll love hues like mulled wine, peacock, dove (gray), ivory and of course, jet (black).
A standout is the Sasha kimono-inspired dress with bursts of burgundy, slate blue and royal purple, that works for day or night. And Schoneveld designs with post-pregnancy in mind, as your body "transitions" back to its old self.
That makes for both environmentally and economically friendly dressing.
