Modern Classics
If your style runs toward the more contemporary end of the kids' furniture spectrum, you see your share of outrageous prices to match the progressive designs.
One Los Angeles mom with mod taste (and a passion for her
table-saw) has made it her mission to make the look more accessible. She started by building cool toy-storage boxes and selling them on Craigslist. Now she has launched her own company, aptly dubbed Modmom Furniture. The solid wood pieces have a mid-century feel and mid-market price points: From a play table with two chairs for $275 to sleek hold-it-all toy chests for $300, they're built to be heirlooms, lasting long after your children outgrow them.
And, of course, they're also built to resist routine abuse by little kids (scratches and bumps and blue crayon-bruises). There are even slow-closing hinges on the toy-box lids to ensure that little fingertips don't get pinched.
That's how it's certain that a mom's behind these mod designs.
