The Music Mom
Do you own the entire collection of Music for Aardvarks and Dan Zanes? Can you recite the lyrics to every Wiggles song (in the order they appear on each CD)? Is your iPod filled exclusively with the best of Sesame Street, The Backyardigans and Hannah Montana? Perhaps you could use some new music in your life.
"Mama Rocks!," a new album for kids of all ages may just fit the bill. The creation of Ashley Gramins – a mother of two and classically trained singer with a background in musical and dramatic theater, commercial and voice-over work – the album features a blend of tunes that includes covers of old favorites like "The Rainbow Connection," "You Are My Sunshine" and "Feeling Groovy," plus a few original tracks penned by her musician brother.
Gramins' sound is a mix of folk, rock and pop with a sprinkling of rhythm and blues thrown in for good measure. Her backup band includes a team of musicians who have played and recorded with James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Jewel and Michael Stipe.
All of which add up to an album that promises to be as appealing to adults as it is to kids – a bonus given how many times you're sure to be pressing rewind.
