This
is the Life
After chasing a half-naked toddler around the pool waving a bottle
of sunscreen one time too many, you got wise and invested in swimwear
with built-in sun protection. Now there's less sunscreen to apply
and reapply and fewer spots to miss in the struggle.
Okay, so you're covered at the water's edge, but what about all
the peak sun your kid is getting every day in the park, going
to daycare, out taking the dog for a walk? In our mad dash out the
door we often forget lotion, and even when we do apply it, kids
are still exposed: the average T-shirt sports a lowly SPF of just
5.
Cabana Life a smart new solution offers SPF 50 clothing
and accessories for boys and girls. The beauty of the line is that
it actually looks and feels like typical clothing, not some boy-in-the-bubble
hazmat suit (because the clothes can't help if they won't wear them).
Creator
Melissa Marks Papok knows a lot about the risks of skin cancer;
at 26 she was diagnosed and survived melanoma. Once she became a
mom, she was inspired to create comfortable, sun protective clothing
for her daughter.
With a background in fashion at top magazines like Allure
and Seventeen, she knows plenty about style, and it shows.
The clothing, for babies to age six, includes sporty graphic tees,
cozy terry hoodies, playful ruffle skirts, lightweight tunics, unisex
roll-up pants, and comfortable terry cover-ups all in yummy
colors with a chic, laid-back beach-club look. The all-cotton polo
shirts even feature UV-reactive screen prints that magically change
colors when exposed to the sun (a helpful reminder to reapply lotion).
The company also hopes to to educate people about the risks of sun
exposure especially in childhood and donates a portion
of profits to the nonprofit Skin Cancer Foundation.
With UV-protective duds this fashionable and functional, odds are
your kids won't even know what sunburn feels like.
