Tummy Time
It's that time of year again. The point at which "I'm going to lose the weight before summer!" turns into "Is this bathing suit available in a skirted version?" Or worse, if you just recently became a mom, "Does this suit come with a matching, opaque, ankle-length sarong?"
But before you ask Nana where she bought her beach getup, consider that you've still got more than a month before summer hits in earnest. That's plenty of time to diminish those newly acquired love handles, according to The Abs Diet for Women: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Belly and Firm Up Your Body for Life – whew, the title alone burns calories.
This new get-fit book by "abs architect" David Zinczenko, the editor of Men's Health magazine, charts your course back to the two-piece swimsuit, starting by giving you shopping lists for nutritious, fat-burning foods and recipes that tell you exactly what to do with them (Halle Berries smoothie, anyone?). The day-by-day diet plan will keep you disciplined, and the workout requirements can be accomplished right in your living room while the baby's napping. Before you know it, you'll be banishing fat, gaining muscle, and revving up your sex life, according to the author.
Most important, there are tons of tips to shore you up during the inevitable moments of weakness. Tighten your belt to remind yourself of your former (and future) waist size. Drink tea instead of eating comfort junk. Skip Letterman, and the extra hour of sleep will help you burn fat. Have some tuna when you're feeling down, or fruit with graham crackers when you're sleepy.
Come the Fourth of July, you may not be parading around in Brazilian bikini bottoms, but you'll be thinking maybe, just maybe, by next year.
