Funny Face
Quirky is one of the first words that comes to mind when people think of Audrey Hepburn's Breakfast at Tiffany's character, Holly Golightly. Who else would bring a Cracker Jack ring to Tiffany for engraving, or seek solace at the famous jewelry store when she's too afraid to face the rest of the world?
Now another Golightly, real-life Portland artist Lisa Golightly, is channeling that same loveable wit and eccentricity into children's portrait paintings. Golightly, a photographer who used to have her own greeting card company, wanted to come up with a fun way to display her own children's photographs while capturing the "spirit of childhood wonder and imagination." So she spiced things up a bit with mixed media portraits. She'll take a digital photograph sent in by a client and weave it into a fun acrylic painting.
Customers can choose a painting from the gallery on Golightly's Kiki & Polly website. "Singin' in the Rain," "Follow the Leader" (which features a boy soaring through the sky on a paper airplane) and "The Wish" are just a few of the options. Golightly hand paints the picture onto a canvas and then transfers the image of your little one's noggin to complete the portrait. Custom-designed paintings are also available. The finished product is a gallery-ready painting on a 1.5-inch thick canvas in varying sizes.
Who exactly are Kiki & Polly? Kiki is the name of the bird Golightly's daughter befriended, and Polly was her daughter's imaginary pal. And the name of Lisa Golightly's daughter? What else – Holly Golightly.
