Art Hunt

When you're looking for that finishing touch for the nursery or playroom, of course you want something your kids will respond to. But it's your house too, so you need artwork with a more universal appeal. Pictures of cute little animals are great, but do they have to be licensed characters who wear pants and star in their own movies? Not if they're artist Alena Hennessy's charming, simple images of woodland creatures.

Working out of her Asheville, North Carolina studio, Hennessy creates whimsical, childlike pieces featuring deer, birds, bunnies and other sweet critters, as well as trees and flowers, all in soft muted colors that enhance any decor. The reasonably-priced offerings include resin-coated paintings on wood panels, three dimensional tiles, giclee prints on watercolor paper, and hydrostone sculptures of white birds in flight. The hand-drawn images are also available on clothing including onesies.
All of the pieces are crafted in limited quantities and signed by the artist.

It's never too early to encourage your little collector's taste. With original artwork for the nursery walls, you're not just a decorator, you're a curator.
