Fantasy Play

Imagine a giant, gnarled tree—complete with Keebler Elf-like hideouts—sprouting forth from the middle of you child’s room. This creative construction—along with a Dragon, a Watchtower, and a Winged Creature—is the brainchild of Wilson IRDC Inc., a consulting firm founded by parent entrepreneurs Di-Ann Eisnor, Jason Wilson and Scott Heiferman. Part theatrical set, part indoor jungle gym, the designs have been exhibited at art festivals including The European Bienniel Manifesta and the DUMBO Arts Festival in New York.

But forget the art crowd. These structures are just the thing for cooped-up city kids. We all know that a stimulating home environment adds points to a kid's IQ, and these playspaces work as backdrops for all kinds of role-playing, quiet time and imaginative play. There's also plenty of functional components such as toy storage and changing areas, as well as multiple levels, stairs and slides that offer exploration and adventure opportunities for kids under 6 ( or eccentric adults). They have also received high marks from kids at the Portland Children's Museum, where the designs went on display last month.
