Life on the Outside
It must be hard being a newborn. After months of floating blissfully in a custom-made environment, you're suddenly thrust into a world that's noisy, cold and full of scratchy clothes and wet diapers. You just want to get back to the comfort of the womb.
Considering that a content baby tends to fuss less and sleep more, it's no wonder new moms get a little obsessed with anything that touches their baby's skin. Modern parents know to skip the complicated outfits and frilly trims in favor of simple designs in comfortable fabrics. Like cashmere from Kinder-Cashmere, which just introduced a complete line of (you guessed it) cashmere layette. In sizes newborn through 24 months, these knits come in soft pastels adorned with needlepoint-style ducks or bunnies. Simple designs include a sweet bunny dress (with or without matching pants), a wrap sweater and pants set, and cozy hats and mittens. Add a charming cashmere baby blanket with bright appliqués of barnyard or marine motifs, and extend the range of baby's cozy zone.
Cashmere may seem like a splurge, but this line is actually practical – and very hand-me-down worthy. Everything in the collection is washable (the clothes come packed in their own lingerie bags), so the inevitable spit-up doesn't lead to another visit to the dry cleaner.
It may not be the womb, but cashmere is about as cozy as it gets in the real world.
