Wrap Session
Future parents, pay attention to how the hospital nurse wraps your newborn. Maybe one reason those little bundles of joy sleep soundly in the hospital is that they really are snug as bug, swaddled properly in their blankets to feel secure.
Unfortunately, the hospital doesn't send you home with a swaddling guide – or a nurse (and why not? Hermès gives instructions on how to fold a scarf...). Those in need of the step-by-steps should check out Solana Babywear's swaddle wrap.
Started by two mothers, the company makes a translucent, breathable wrap in a range of colors and designs using cotton fabrics from India and Australia. The wraps conform to new recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics that caregivers should wrap babies in lightweight fabrics. Proper swaddling (see the Web site for illustrated instructions) may help baby sleep better and, according to AAP, may decrease the risk of SIDS.
And that should help everyone sleep better (note to self: do not wrap baby in Hermès scarf).
