Booked
Up
What's better than cuddling up with a good picture book and a warm
kid on your lap? If your story time rotation could use a little
boost, you're in luck. These new winter releases are sure to be
welcome additions to the "read it again" stack.
My Very Big Little World by Peter H. Reynolds
From
the best-selling author of The Dot and Ish comes the
first title in a new series about the adventures of SugarLoaf, an
unstoppable little girl whose many talents include artiste extraordinaire,
tip-top baker, musician, and first class architect. Charming cartoon
illustrations bring this endearing and confident little heroine
to life: Eloise for a new generation. simonsays.com.
Just in Case by Judith Viorst; Illustrated by Diana
Cain Bluthenthal
Anything could happen at any time, so Charlie is always ready ...
just in case. If it rains inside the house, he's got a plan. If
the food stores all close, he's got a stockpile of 117 peanut butter
sandwiches. But Charlie finds that sometimes not being prepared
can be even more fun. Judith Viorst has written for all audiences,
but kids know her best for the classic Alexander books and
The Tenth Good Thing About Barney. simonsays.com.
Veronica by Roger Duvoisin
This classic, originally published in 1961, introduces Veronica,
a hippo who longs to stand out. When she visits the big city, she
absolutely does stand out by blocking sidewalks, causing traffic
jams and getting into trouble. The journey leads her to the happy
discovery that there's no place like home. Duvoisin, also known
for his Petunia books and cover art for the New Yorker,
is in fine form in this welcome reissue. randomhouse.com.
Pezzettino
by Leo Lionni
Here's another timely re-release. Little Pezzettino is so small,
while everyone around him is big and does big, daring things. He
thinks he must be just a little piece (pezzettino in
Italian) of somebody else, until he learns that he belongs only
to himself. The book's wonderful illustrations still look modern,
and the uplifting story told in the whimsical style of four-time
Caldecott winner Leo Lionni, holds true today.

ready for a very unusual fishing trip, counting from 1-10 as they
go. Fans of Cronin's other titles (including Click, Clack, Moo:
Cows That Type and Giggle, Giggle, Quack) will welcome
the return of these favorite characters. simonsays.com.
