[ - ] Dilemma here! I'm pregnant with our 3rd baby. We have a preschooler and toddler. It's very early. I'm only 7 weeks, but I have had insane nausea already. Vomiting at least once a day. My husband keeps pressuring me to visit his family, which is a 5/6 hr drive away. We're not telling family just yet that we're expecting. I really don't want to be in a car for that long while being crazy nauseous, plus trying to keep our 2 little ones happy. His family is expecting us to come because he won't give them a definite answer. He'll ask me and I say it's going to be difficult for me and maybe we can wait till August. But then he gives me a guilt trip saying his sister will be visiting too and he wants to see her. I'm going to be miserable and living in the bathroom the whole time. Any advice? 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I agree (although I think Danielle will probably be the most successful). She only has one style, and hasn't shown any range. But she has done that style exceedingly well, and obviously people love pretty young blondes and country. But Blake never let her stretch. It would have been interesting to see Danielle on American Idol, where they had to do different genres. People compare her to Carrie Underwood, but I remember Carrie had to do a rock number (Alone) and completely blew it out of the water -- probably why she won. Danielle did a series of country classics one after another. She did them perfectly, but that was it. [ Reply | More ]

Can we also discuss Blake's creepy duet with Danielle the night before. Both dh and I were saying "wth"!! Blake is putting some feeling into it, but it's weird that he's singing "I'm falling in love" with feeling to a 16 year old. And meanwhile, Danielle looks a bit uncomfortable, and sings with no feeling. I cannot believe that out of all the country classics, they could not find even one good duet song that wasn't about love! Come on. [ Reply | More ]

Obviously, we would have to bring all the gear, figure out where they would nap/sleep, and bring certain foods, etc. They have a beautiful house with lots of stairs, tile and hardwood floors, a pool, and expensive furniture. I would tell them how challenging it might be to host a family with two little kids. Give them an out. Unless they're infertile and then you might want to say it very diplomatically. But if they're childless by choice, tell them kids can be hard to handle in someone else's house and you don't know that it would be as peaceful a weekend as they might hope. If the issue is that you're afraid it'll be too much for you to handle (with the hard floors, food issues, etc.) then be honest. [ Reply | More ]

Next, take a look at the Five Agreements (easily found on the internet), which I have found to be a very helpful guide to keeping my own emotions and reactions under control. Second Agreement: Don’t Take Anything Personally – Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering. [ Reply | More ]

It is a zoned school, but like Baruch, they have a special program (i.e. advanced, honors, Upper Middle class, or whatever you want to call it) that is very good and many smart dcs choose. [ Reply | More ]

Depends. Our riding trainer wanted to increase dd's lessons to 3x a week at 60 each for a private and 45 for a group. However, dd 11 is passionate. On days she does not have lessons she still makes me drive her straight from school so she can hack around the ring, on Saturdays and Sundays she goes for 6 hours and brings a lunch. If the barn were not closed Mondays, she would go 7 days a week. [ Reply | More ]

I had 15 minute lessons until I was 9, then upped to 30. 30 is plenty - the true learning will come from dds own practice. If she's not into it, making her sit with an instructor for even longer won't make her a better musician. [ Reply | More ]

We upped DD's lesson from 30 to 60 minutes when she was 11 and had been playing for three years. Often during the lesson DD and her teacher will talk about music. They may talk about music theory or about a composer or about the teacher's other life as a performer. So the extra time in the lesson meant that these conversations could take place and the teacher wasn't using the time to just march her through her playing. [ Reply | More ]
