Teamwork. And so even the I athletic kids can participate in Organized competition but in a fun way. The best basketball player is not likely to be the winner of the 3-legged race.

"Nearly one in four kindergarten spots in New York City's most competitive gifted-and-talented programs have been set aside this fall for siblings of current students, almost twice the rate from two years ago, the city said Tuesday."-- Wall Street Journal

we have not had good luck with their providers - can you go out of network? they will still pay 70-80% after your deductible. I'm not sure how good they are with it we're waiting to find out. GL

Last year when we toured, they wanted to add middle school grades to their program, not sure of the status of that. Only K-5, at least as of last year.

They're adding middle school seats in PS126 building, but I was asking more about why so many STEM are complaining. All you ever hear about are some vague comments about how the administration/PA doesn't "support" them or won't "push" the kids. Trying to get to the bottom of all this - what are the SPECIFIC initiatives

Ahahaha... I know. We always wanted 3 kids and wanted to have them before age 35. It's nuts that it's really working out that way. I'm surprised and really tried. But I know the early years will be tough. We're hoping its worth it in the end.

NP I didn't want people to know too early either but honestly, it would be preferable than you suffering in the car for 6 hours throwing up. Have him go with the kids and that's that.

Ask him to go with the kids, and that you'll take a trip all together to see his parents in August (when you might be ready to announce or feeling better).

I agree (although I think Danielle will probably be the most successful). She only has one style, and hasn't shown any range. But she has done that style exceedingly well, and obviously people love pretty young blondes and country. But Blake never let her stretch. It would have been interesting to see Danielle on American Idol, where they had to do different genres. People compare her to Carrie Underwood, but I remember Carrie had to do a rock number (Alone) and completely blew it out of the water -- probably why she won. Danielle did a series of country classics one after another. She did them perfectly, but that was it.

Can we also discuss Blake's creepy duet with Danielle the night before. Both dh and I were saying "wth"!! Blake is putting some feeling into it, but it's weird that he's singing "I'm falling in love" with feeling to a 16 year old. And meanwhile, Danielle looks a bit uncomfortable, and sings with no feeling. I cannot believe that out of all the country classics, they could not find even one good duet song that wasn't about love! Come on.

I would tell them how challenging it might be to host a family with two little kids. Give them an out. Unless they're infertile and then you might want to say it very diplomatically. But if they're childless by choice, tell them kids can be hard to handle in someone else's house and you don't know that it would be as peaceful a weekend as they might hope. If the issue is that you're afraid it'll be too much for you to handle (with the hard floors, food issues, etc.) then be honest.

It is very nice of your friend to invite you, and I don't see why she is "clueless" about kids just b/c she has a nice home and is inviting your children into it. If you are concerned, book a hotel room! Or go without them and have the grandparents babysit. I agree it sounds like it would not be a relaxing trip but I don't find traveling with young kids relaxing anyway.

I don't get your hesitation. Just because you have young kids doesn't mean you can't visit friends with nice homes. Just watch them incessantly which it sounds like you do anyway. I would welcome a weekend away at a friends gorgeous home with a pool. Especially after the kids are asleep!

Yes. Get a champagne stopper. You twist it and it fills the gap very tightly. It will keep the bubbles in there for a few days. It's never as good as the first time, but it will do.

First congratulate yourself for having this incredible insight into yourself and seeking to change - many of us dramatic martyrs ;) never realize that we alone are the source of much of much of our misery. Next, take a look at the Five Agreements (easily found on the internet), which I have found to be a very helpful guide to keeping my own emotions and reactions under control. I am indifferent to much of the new age spiritualism that accompanies the Five Agreement, but find the actual advice to be incredibly helpful.

Try hypnobabies! Even if you disregard the natural childbirth part, it makes you feel strong and in control and at one with the childbirth process. The daily affirmations just make you feel good.

It is a zoned school, but like Baruch, they have a special program (i.e. advanced, honors, Upper Middle class, or whatever you want to call it) that is very good and many smart dcs choose.

It should be 1/2 hour unless dc is passionate or over age 14.

Depends. Our riding trainer wanted to increase dd's lessons to 3x a week at 60 each for a private and 45 for a group. However, dd 11 is passionate. On days she does not have lessons she still makes me drive her straight from school so she can hack around the ring, on Saturdays and Sundays she goes for 6 hours and brings a lunch. If the barn were not closed Mondays, she would go 7 days a week.

I had 15 minute lessons until I was 9, then upped to 30. 30 is plenty - the true learning will come from dds own practice. If she's not into it, making her sit with an instructor for even longer won't make her a better musician.

We upped DD's lesson from 30 to 60 minutes when she was 11 and had been playing for three years. Often during the lesson DD and her teacher will talk about music. They may talk about music theory or about a composer or about the teacher's other life as a performer. So the extra time in the lesson meant that these conversations could take place and the teacher wasn't using the time to just march her through her playing.

this sounds good if you're ok with it and feel it's worth it.
