Disorders are defined by the impact they have on someones life. If someone is so shy that it prevents them from being a productive member of society, then it is a disorder and there is no reason we shouldn't provide help for them. If you're suggesting this will lead to kids who are just a little shy, but suffer no ill consequences from their shyness, being diagnosed and medicated, I agree that would be a problem. Disorders have no known underlying cause. Drugs prescribed for disorders target the symptom, but have no known effect on the actual cause. That's modern psychiatric drug prescription for you -- nobody knows why people suffer from these various "disorders", but you just prescribe stuff until people self report that they feel "better" (and the side effects remain tolerable).
