One of the forms you fill out at registration is a transfer form. Once your child's OSIS # goes into the system as registered at PS 33, you'll be removed from Ella Baker.

You can always go back to your zoned school. The DOE does not track this. It is up to your moral concious to let the rejected school know as soon as possible to allow others to enjoy the spot you gave up.

I run. I come home, change out of my work clothes into my running clothes, do the dinner / bath / book routine with the kids, and then I'm out the door as soon as they are asleep. Not every night, but at least twice during the work week. During the weekends I try to go early in the am before the rest of the family is really up and about.

You seem to be going 100% by test scores. Note that PS 9 is a fantastic school, but its test scores include G&T classes they have there (being phased out). Don't know about the other two schools. There are many other schools that are just as good that may have slightly lower test scores, if only because they do not have G&T classes averaged in. That said, last I heard PS 9 is not overcrowded. If you live in zone they have not had trouble getting all zoned kids in the school. However, they will most likely not have room for non-zoned kids.

A lot of people who could be considered "WASPs" come from families that USED to have a lot of money, but current generations don't. Not that they are poor by any means, but not crazy rich by any means. This would be my family. Family here since the 1700s, and LOTS of money up until my grandmother's generation.

Each kid is different and it's impossible to generalize - one person's 2 or 3 could be way easier than another's one. But purely from a logistical / money standpoint, I think one is easier.

I don't have any specific questions, per se. Just interested in the interactions, etc. I was born/grew up in Latin America, and dd is in a mostly white/Protestant private school. I get along well with the parents, but so much is foreign to me (in a good way). Just curious to read more about it.

Not really, I'm talking about cotillion classes. Some people do parties when their daughters turn 15 (not sons), but there aren't classes associated with it necessarily. And a bar/bat mitzvah is religious. So you do Hebrew school as preparation, so not really the same. More like a confirmation.

Yes. I have asked her countless times to follow my instructions, wrote down a schedule, arranged play dates, etc. She'll follow an arranged play date because there is no way around that. But as far as parks and library she usually defers to my son. Which nanny defers to the kid???? I have also asked her to instruct him to pick up after his toys. But she says he will not pick up after his toys and usually does not pick up the toys as well. She says it's my job to discipline him. So when I get home late at night, the whole place is a mess. I end up picking up or asking son to pick them up if he's not in bed already. Very annoying.

how old is your son? This all sounds like laziness on her part. Yes, it's the parents job to discipline, but it's the nanny's job to follow-through and make sure those orders are followed when you are not around (so she too, needs to discipline and make sure he is picking up after the toys). I have some similar issues with the cleaning, so I completely understand. In my case, my db will happily clean with me under my watch so it's not a "discipline issue" but purely laziness on the cleaning part!

nnp: yeah, this is the wrong nanny for you. it's one thing to defer to a kid's wishes on a one off basis - he was really tired today and said he wanted to stay home. but when it's the norm, that's ridiculous. she needs to get him to pick up toys period. if she can't do that, then she has to go bc clearly she cannot handle him.

This. I froze eggs because I was still single and desperate for a genetic child with a husband I hadn't met yet. You are wishy washy at best about children and have a husband. If you do anything, freeze embryos. It'll be about $15,000 to $20,000 as insurance won't cover it because you don't have a determination of infertility (because you are not trying to get pregnant).

OP here- I have mixed feelings about parenthood. Mostly because I am not crazy about being miserable for 9 months and dealing with crying babies, losing sleep, etc. we both have good jobs, good salaries but with a child- we will have to make sacrifices (no more annual vacations, 401K contributions will drop, will have to worry about costs, etc). I don't know if I will change my mind as I get older, but I remember at age 25 I felt like I never wanted to get married, and then boom 35 came and I got engaged after a whirlwind romance with DH for a year. So who knows? What if I wake up one day at age 45 and say, "ya know, maybe I do want to be called mommy one day?". Hence why freezing eggs sounds like a good insurance idea...

You could adopt, especially if the being pregnant aspect is one of the reasons you are hesitating. And if you aren't a big fan of babies, you could adopt an older child (though they are more likely to have issues).

dont be silly. pregnancy is not misery it is joy. how do you know your baby will cry and you would not sleep at night? maybe he/she will sleep through the night like my son did...who said no more vacations? you will take your child with you, like I did. I started travelling when he was 5 months old. that kid had been in more places than many of the adults in this country...you are just giving yourself excuses maybe because you are not meant to have kids? in which case dont bother with eggs...not everyone is supposed to be a parent.

A miserable pregnancy is a possibility (as is a crying baby, sleepless nights), but it's not to be assumed that a pregnancy will be miserable - I think this was the point of PP. I've had two great pregnancy and two that were miserable for a few weeks.

i puked as expected...so what? constipation is easily relieved by appropriate diet. i lived on salads through 8.5 months of my gestation...mega huge salads..also had no other health issues i think because i used one of those yoga dvd's for moms to be...i was 41 when i gave birth...when i said joyful it was for me because for the first time ever in my life when i carried my son i felt like a was not alone, like someone was always accompanying me wherever i went..it was huge for me.

IMO, ART is expensive and comes with a host of risks. i don't think it should be an insurance policy for married couples who can't make an adult decision whehter to have kids or not and then live with the consequences of that decision. you probably didn't want to get married at 25 bc you hadn't met the person you'd want to spend a lifetime with. but with kids, if you really are willing to go to such an expense and effort for the insurance, you probably want them more than you think and you're just hesitant about the changes a child will bring. IME, the only people who regret having kids are people who felt forced into it in some way - pressure from dh, unintended pg (esp if very young).

Because you can't make up your mind about something so fundamental and you are literally running out of time. If you were truly the type who didn't want kids, you wouldn't be mulling over freezing your egss (on UB of all places). You know you're going to regret it if you don't, but then it's going to be too late. And worse, your marriage, which is supposed to help you tap into your desire to have a dc, is actually holding you back. You say your dh will do whatever you want, but the subtext says he doesn't really want dcs (at least not with you right now) and you're afraid to push the issue. And something is just not right there. Men are simple creatures, really, and if they fall in love with a woman and marry her but then discourage her from having dcs, that is usually a sign of deep selfishness and/or lack of commitment. And you know what, if/when this all blows up, it won't be too late for him.

OP, I'm jsut going to throw this out there as food for thought. I was never really sure of the parenthood thing, and I have to say, I still find other people's children annoying. But, my children are the light of my world. Even when they are annoying, it is just not the same. I love them absolutely unconditionally.

I did one cycle (at NYU), and total costs including the meds were about $14,000 I think. My insurance did cover some of the meds - about ~$1,000 I think. Storage is $1,000 per year.

Well it depends on how old you are. At age 25 after being overweight all my life, I lost and kept off 23 pounds until age 38 when i had an operation (fibroids and then got pregnant with 1st DC 4 months later) Losing weight for me is completely about food consumption. Maintaining is about exercise and moderation. Now I am 12 lbs over over skinny weight and 11 pounds under heavy weigh at age 43. Would be happy if only I could lose 5 pounds. I was skinny. Now I am not. I would be happy to just be thinnish but what I can eat is very different now. I went to a nutritionist who said she found that women's bodies really change what they can metabolize around 40. When I was 25 low-fat was my friend. Now certain foods really make a difference.
