Cars built in the last couple of decades can run hundreds of thousands of miles as long as they are maintained. The idea of cars "dying" at 100K or so is from the 70s and early 80s

Maybe it's bc of the cost of upkeep? Buy her a package at a local/decent salon for a cut, color and glaze/deep conditioning treatment... Maybe a keratin treatment to smooth her hair, too!

PS there is upkeep to color- she may need to go every 3-5 weeks for root touch-ups, and will need trims a couple times per year.

I actually disagree with everyone else. You owe it to your significant other to, at the very least, look as good as you did when you started dating as much as possible. Sure people age but there's no need to just not take care of yourself.

Have you ever thought about the following: 1) your wife is getting older and hair texture does change with age, especially when gray hair is added to the mix. 2) Perhaps instead of the big coverup being with the red/yellow hair NOW, it seems like perhaps your DW was coloring her hair and doing a great bit of upkeep when she was younger and it was "dark brown and shiny". No one purposefully chooses dowdy frizzy hair, it is more likely that she chooses to no longer keep up the lengthy treatments that allowed her to make her naturally "dowdy" frizzy mousy brown hair into the dark shiny hair that attracted you. I wouldn't take it personally. Perhaps instead of wanting her past look, you should instead gift her a day of pampering with a stylist that you've conferenced with prior to help her find a NEW look that works for her AND embraces her natural assets.

my friend is very driven, serious career in finance, her dh has same education and career but loves kids. She was glad for him to be a SAHD as they both wanted a parent at home and it freed her up to go for it. Key is that she WANTED to work that way, she is self-motivated and hungry, so no resentment.

Nuts are not carbs. 500 calories for dinner is a bit light unless you don't work out at all. Have some salad and a good size portion of protein to curb hunger. Some yogurt and fruit for dessert. Screw that app, sounds like junk.

If that's all you've had all day, then that app is worthless. You will fail if you are hungry. You need to eat high protein, high veggies (leafy greens, broccolli, asparagus, brussel sprouts, salads, avoid carrots they have tons of sugar, some green/red peppers are okay, onions are great for flavor, same for garlic), SOME fruit - like 1-2 servings a day, then a good amount of dairy (the protein will satiate you.) Lots of water, low alcohol. Do this with regular working out, allow yourself a treat 1x/week (chocolate cake, ice cream, whatever) but DO NOT CHEAT other than that treat. You will get in shape fast, I promise. Other than the treat, NO CARBS: no rice, paste, bread, crackers. Those are what are making you fat. Nuts in small amounts are okay, good snack is raw almonds. Cut out all white sugar, use raw honey or just regular honey (raw is much better, and tastes great and is totally safe.) GL!

OR oh my god your diet has been almost completely sugar: milk has some if it was skinny, honey, fruit, yogurt, apple, sugar. I'm sorry to be brutal but you've had an unhealthy day and I can see why you're hungry. You need protein for breakfast, way more vegetables, no sugar, no honey, one-two pieces of fruit max. Protein and vegetables for dinner..

I really, really, really wouldn't worry about it, b/c milk is really good for you and especially important for women. however pp is right, the milk and yogurt contain natural sugars. All that really matters for weight loss is the calorie count though. both fruit and dairy are healthy.

Not really. It is pure sugar without a drop of protein. Oranges etc are not absorbed all that slowly and whenever they get absorbed, it's sugar.

It sounds like you have a lot of sugar in your diet. Replace the fruit with veggies like celery, green beans or sugar snap peas. Yes, these have a little sugar, but they will not make you hungrier. Dip them in some salad dressing with decent fat like olive or canola oil. It will help with the hunger. I find yogurt, especially nonfat yogurt makes me extra hungry so I avoid it. Get more protein from eggs, lowfat cheese, seafood or meat. Always make sure you have some fat in your meals. I use MyFitnessPal too, and I disregard the goal numbers except for the calories. I tend to eat way less carbs, more protein and more fat than they recommend and it keeps me full.

That is a very selfish priority. I get that you want to know if you should go to work, but if there IS something wrong with his kid and you bother him to find out if you should go to work, then you will be on his shit list FOREVER.

This is common and you'll feel like this a lot. Many, many people stagger their kids at 2-3 years. You just soldier through. If they're all alive and unharmed, you're doing OK.

Read all together - each of the older kids picks one book. Put DB in a carrier or sling and rock while you read if they're fussy - or nurse during the story. Both 3 and 5Yo should be adept at turning pages.

it's going to be impossible to have alone time with the 5 yo unless they go to bed very late! here's what i did: put 6 mo to bed first (they should be going to sleep around 7 or so anyway), then read to the 5yo and 3yo at the same time. Once they get into the routine, it will be easy! good luck!

My #1 is older so it's a bit easier for me. I stagger all 3 but in your case I would put db down first and then the 2 older dcs together. Mine are 9mo, 2 yo, and 8 yo. Db eats at 6:30 down no later than 7pm.

I had a similar spread. If baby was not sleeping, I would wear baby in a sling. Bathe 3 yo first while 5 yo would watch a short video and put 5 yo in tub while quickly putting 3 yo to bed, then put 5 yo to bed. This only works if you have a VERY solid bedtime routine. It was actually easier when DH was not around to stir them up.

This is going to sound complicated, but bare with me. I Agree with having a group reading time. Put Baby in sling or nurse and have 5 year old "read" a book to the younger ones, even if he is just making it up. Then read a younger level book for the 3 year old and let the 5 year old page through any other book or kid magazine if he wants. Read about 4 books this way and then have the 5 year old have their own time, meaning that he can do whatever he wants, read, play on ipad, play with quiet toys, listen to book on tape whatever, as long as he stays in his bed and calm. Take baby with you to put 3 year old to bed. If the baby will stay in bouncy chair, then great. Read just one quick book to 3 year old and then say night night you'll check on him in a few minutes. At this point, put Baby down. Take the time to rock, do whatever routine you need and put baby down. (Let baby cry if he does not fall asleep, sometimes you need to give time to the older and let the little one fuss, the odds are by the third night he will fall right to sleep and if he doesn't your only going to be 15 min at the most) Check on 3 year old, head to 5 year old, read 2 books, night night I'll check on you in a few. Then back to baby if crying.

OP: thanks, I remember your post and I really appreciated it. People can snark and be judgmental, but frankly, that doesn't bother me anymore. Too much to lose, too many people to hurt, too much time and contribution already lost. No one in my life knew except my immediate family, and now all these people are coming out of the woodwork (people that I admire and even envy) and are telling me: I've been there...I understand.

trust? you should check your bills every once in a while - they overbill for everything and bill for services that they should not have. ask for your credit card without showing you an itemized bill - when I ask for it is when I see billing errors and the look on the girl at the desks face seems shocked that anyone would want to dare see a bill before paying. sorry unimpressed and switched and am so much happier.

This happened to my dd. Dentist said it could either stay gray until it falls out or turn back to white. It turned back to white after a few months. Do watch for swelling, bleeding or pain. Abcess could develop. But as long as gum looks healthy he is fine.

We had one last year. They said we had taken a deduction that was undocumented - our mortgage interest deduction - stupid because it is just such an obvious deduction that we can prove. It was for $25K. Accountant said not to worry, he handled it, a few months later we received a notice saying the issue had been resolved.

Stay calm. Act like you have a full, busy life with lots of other plans and are not sitting around waiting for him to get in touch. Read the rules until they become second nature. Relax. If he's interested, he will orchestrate a meeting eventually.

I think you are talking about me. Everyone thinks we are teetering on the brink (thank you, gossips!), and we're doing great. Plus, it makes people feel good to think that someone is doing worse than they are, so why deprive them? I don't need to spend money until I'm ready, and certainly not to impress some housewives.

People often tell me how smart dcs are--I learned from experience that you sound like a bitch if you say anything other than switch the topic.

np. Ditto. I save all my bragging for the grandparents and, once in a while, UB.

I guess there are women who feel compelled to brag and volunteer information about their brilliant children and those who just don't

If your kids are smart, it will be obvious and people will figure it out. If its not, well....

Not so. Many exceedingly intelligent kids are put in special ed in public schools. It sounds strange, but anything deviating from the norm can throw off that system.

I think that most parents usually only talk about it in the context of schools and opportunities for their children to learn. Right? Gifted kids need a certain education, that's really hard to find in public or private.

So true. I always downplayed it when moms would say how smart my dd was, but I agree with you. I have had to become more vocal about it since trying to access the appropriate education for her. Not bragging at all, in fact, it would often be easier if we didn't have these issues, but finding the right school for a gifted child is tough.

Our school kept insisting that DS was struggling. The truth is they were just bad teachers. I had to go show them the IQ tests and examples of his work and some Moms thought I was demanding too much of the teachers time and didn't understand. Explaining that your kid is smart and needs help is weird and sounds like bragging, but it's not.

I have only met one person who actually brags about their kids. For all the talk on UB, I don't see it in real life. People used to say my son was so smart and had an incredible amount of knowledge because he can recite statistics about all sorts of things. It always kind of embarrassed me because I didn't know what to say besides "thank you." Now, he's in a selective school and doing great, but at the time, in elementary, I had no idea how smart he was. How do these people know their kid is gifted at 3,4,5?

it's not that hard to spot a truly gifted child at 3, 4, 5. A psychiatrist suspected mine at an even earlier age.

Depends on the child. Lots of true "gifts" don't show themselves until much later. Which area is your child gifted in? Did the psychiatrist determine that at a very early age, or did you have to wait to find out?

suspected - I refused to proceed with study/testing. DC is out of the ordinary. No big deal, extremely lucky the social parts are equally as good. I'm pretty sure dc won't cure cancer - but will live a fulfilling life and be a productive member of society.

This is just it. I don't think dc would have benefitted from a gifted elementary education in any major way, and would not have gotten him tested at 4. So much of those years are about socialization, and he doesn't need to learn Algebra in 4th grade to use his gift. KWIM? I just want him to have time to be a normal kid. He can develop his gifts in MS, HS, college or beyond.

they don't necessarily benefit from the academics in that setting, agreed. i don't know about your kid, but just because he's smart doesn't make him an angel. if he's bored, he's a total nightmare.

ITA. Nobody outside of close family members knows that DD tested at 8th grade reading level as a 4-year-old, that she's a Davidson scholar with a 99.9th percentile IQ, that her school is advocating another grade skip (she's already a year ahead). If somebody says she's smart, I reply that I'm happy she's starting to develop a good work ethic. On the other hand, a ridiculous "friend" recently bragged on Facebook that her kindergartner is reading at a 4th grade level and that his teacher thinks he may have a high IQ.

i find most parents of gifted children really struggle to find appropriate schools for their kids and have only heard them talk about their kids in passing.

Many private schools dissuade children from reading at this age. These schools often do not want these kids in their classes. Not a bragging statement. Just fact.

We are the only family from our PreK not going to a private school, so I have to admit that when everyone kept needling me about where ours was headed next year, we spilled the beans that he tested 99 percentile and we are hoping for citywide. Normally I would never share that information, but the questions were getting tedious.
