[ - ] My 4.5 month old has become gassy/reflux-y the past several weeks, coinciding with when I went back to work - and no, don't believe it is related to bottle feeding during the day, he's always been given BM from bottle for some feeds and even on the weekends he seems to have the issue. He arches his back, spits up a decent amount which he really doesn't like and once that happens, gets really fussy at the breasts (although is still able to feed with bottle). His stools are not green/runny. The past few days I've realized that I'm squirting out vigorously, so I know I have some oversupply issues. Yes, the watery milk that is more present with an oversupply can cause reflux. Keep upright for awhile after feeding. Don't be afraid to put DB on some reflux medication. I am not a big fan of medicating but if your baby is in pain, this may help. Reflux usually clears up around 6 months so he can go off then. [ Reply | More

Many babies develop reflux at about this age. Probably just a coincidence that it happened when you went back to work. Talk to ped. There are some very safe medications that can help. Nanny here: I would be fine working with a nanny cam if the parents were up front with it. I would also be ok if the parents used a nanny cam for 2 weeks to a month, just to calm their nerves. However, if I found out I was being secretly taped long term I would feel really violated. When it's just me and DC home, I frequently go to the bathroom with the door open so I can see her play. Or sometimes I shut the door, but she walks in to keep me company and doesn't close it behind her. I would not be doing this if I thought there was a camera in the room adjacent to the bathroom. We have a camera in dc's bedroom and in the main room, which we also used as monitors before hiring a nanny, and we told all candidates about them. I didn't like the idea of one at all, but DH wasn't comfortable having no visibility into what goes on (especially in the beginning), so having a cam but disclosing it was our compromise. I think it's the way to go. Bad nannies won't take the job; good ones won't care so long as you're up front (not secretly spying); and being honest does allow you to address anything you see that may trouble you. ps our nanny even calls on rare occassion to tell us to watch ds doing something cute or notable.
