Bloomberg is a billionaire, and therefore many people kiss his ass and / or fear him. This is the problem. And this is why there's good press. He's NOT a good manager. He sucks. The city is worse. Except for the bike lanes. [ Reply | More ]

this is so true. Many people kiss his ass b/c they are afraid of losing money if they are on his shit list. He's very punitive about people who disagree with him and that seems like a BAD manager to me, unwilling to hear criticism or disagreement. [ Reply | More ]

OP. I don't plan to use it. It is expensive enough to discourage me from recreation and I don't commute anymore, but my commute was only about 10 blocks when I did it. I don't understand why they don't leave a wide gap between the two racks when they install them. People have to walk a long way around, and the point about ambulances and such is a good one. Garbage pickup is going to be an issue too. There is so little sidewalk access from the street. [ Reply | More ]

The first 30 minutes are free, which is great and similar to Paris' Velib, but the price after 30 minutes is outrageous ($4 for second half-hour and $9 for the half hour after that.) In Paris if the bike dock you want to return your bike to is full, you can get a free extra 15 minutes to find another dock. I don't see that option with Citibike. [ Reply | More ]

And? That's sort of the nature of being a tourist. When I sublet an apartment in Paris I didn't complain that my per night cost was more than the per night cost to the apartment's real tenant, who rents it on a monthly basis. Nor did I complain about the cost of a single entry to the Louvre, even though I know people who live in Paris get a better deal in the long run with their annual memberships. That's just how these things work. [ Reply | More ]

I own a great bike so I won't be using it. I agree with what they're trying to do environmentally and all, but imagine it will be a pita for residents and motorists. People who don't ride bikes regularly and are familiar with NYC traffic and roads have no place on the road. They cause traffic, delays, take up space and are a nuisance to other cyclists. I've also seen a Citibike bicycle...not what I consider a bike worth riding. Plus the prices are ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]

nnp. I don't know about NYC, but a few pedestrians here in SF were killed by cyclists last year. It happens. It does seem like the elderly are more vulnerable. The big problem with cyclists is that they don't obey the traffic laws. They think stop lights don't apply to them. Many are quite arrogant about it. If they behaved like cars, they wouldn't make pedestrians so nervous. I've known more people who have been hit by bikes in the city than cars. Sure, they didn't die, but one was in a coma for 4 days. np. I haven't ridden a bike in years, and I wouldn't want to ride one in the city, ever, but let's not pin all the blame on the cyclists. Have you paid any attention to how pedestrians behave? Everyone jaywalks. They cross against the lights, they cross in the middle of the block, they're plugged in to their iPhones listening to music and posting on Instagram while in the middle of the street--you name it. I've seen pedestrians cause accidents or near accidents more often than I've seen the opposite. Which isn't to say cyclists are all great, but in general pedestrians are much worse and there are way more of them. [ Reply | More ]

I believe Archstone has a building in HK, check out TF Cornerstone, Glenwood and Related Rentals. There is a building called the Helena on the far west side, The Ellington is on 8th Ave. If you do Craigslist, just keep reading the ads for a few days. Then you will be able to spot the few real listings and weed out the shady stupid bait & switch postings. Brokers post even under "by owner" so always ask if this is a broker and if there is any commission. [ Reply | More ]

Really I don't think guys are like this. Why are we women so petty? I really wish people could just for once be some what nice and supportive to each other. lets face it, we all have issues and no one is perfect, wouldn't it be nice to try to support each other instead of trash talking or talking down? 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I'm not sure what you're talking about exactly, but I have noticed that UBers very quickly personalize posts about childbirth. For example, there are statistically many unnecessary C-sections in the US. I think that would be an interesting thing to talk about, that a lot of women would be pissed that doctors take decisions out of our hands for non-medical reasons. In other words, I think that conversation could unite us, it could be about female solidarity, about us women supporting each other. But posters here assume you are saying THEIR C-section was unnecessary if you even bring it up. I have no idea if YOURS was necessary. Let's just say it was. We still have a huge problem in the US, in doctors' attitudes towards healthy, uncomplicated childbirths, and we can ask together that it be addressed. [ Reply | More ]

OP - I posted a few days ago asking people where they took childbirth prep classes. I thought this is a pretty straight forward post. I got so many responses like "only idiots take classes" and when I tried to explain saying I was not out to question my doctor just be informed as to what my options are...boy people just either laughed, like "honey you will not even care" or "you think you read a couple of books and now you are an expert" it blew me away how many women could care less about what is happening to their body? regardless of choice about pain meds, I believe that all women we should support them, some epidural is wonderful, some birth centers are great and for yes some csection is the best option, why judge, why not support, birth is an experiece, amazing, scary, transformative, no matter which way you go. I just was floored by the responses,...so sad [ Reply | More ]

There were the laziest, sloppiest looking nannies all sitting around on the benches chatting with each other ( I am sure you can all imagine this picture!) who were supposed to be watching toddlers- and these kids were just running loose, some not even two years old!! If you see something, please..say something!! We cannot let these nannies get away with this behavior. It's so important to let them know they are being watched, observed. These are our children!! I get what you are talking about. Moms/ grandparents watching the kids are interacting, playing with, talking to, and talking about the kids they are with. It is hard for me to watch nannies completely ignore, disregard, and not acknowledge the kids they are watching. Huge divide in how the kids are treated. It's not fair for them. Some of my friends have nannies, and at school pickup it just bothers me how those kids are treated as opposed to the parents/ grandparents pickings them up. For god sake , the kid is 2 yo, can you at least pretend to be happy to see this kid?! Don't you think the child is going to notice how happy the other parents are picking their kids up?! If they are really old money like WASPY it will be somewhere kind of crappy that is only cool because they think it is. Lots of these remote places sort of suck and lack the tacky creature comforts that the "new" money is fine with. e.g. Sconset on Nantucket is pretty, but really effing far away from other things on the island. Maine is WAY too cold and frankly all of these places are on the Atlantic with its cold water and never ending surf. I would take a tacky Beyonce yacht in crystal blue warm water any day over popped collar trust funders hanging out in remote beaches eating bland food. [ Reply | More ]

Lol...separation camp is usually a playgroup for 2 year olds where leaving them is optional. So basically everyone practices leaving their kids but really the moms/nannies are all waiting outside looking through windows to make sure the kid is doing ok. It's like practice for pre-school when you really do have to leave them. Kidville and several other places do it and they do gym, art, music etc for about 2 hours. [ Reply | More ]

Fluent in Spanish and English, she has done everything from cooking, cleaning and all the running around manhattan that happens with 3 kids. But it is sadly time for her to move on as another family can use her more than we can. (believe me, my kids would keep her til they were 30 if I let them!!). She is looking for full time, preferably with baby (s) but other ages ok. Live out only. Another plus -- She lives in Manhattan, so no costly taxis late at night to Queens or Brooklyn! You can read all the books in the world, but until you actually do it you have no idea. It is like the difference between climbing a mountain and reading about climbing a mountain. Your body just takes over and you do it. It just isn't an intellectual thing. [ Reply | More ]

not so much true..you would want to know how to tie a knot, what gear you would need, etc before you climb...with some much interventions happening an a lot of it not always needed it is nice to know that you do have other options, it is not about attacking your doctor it is about having a smart conversation with them, they only way you know what questions to ask is by getting info before...like know you don't need an iv if you don't have pain meds...if you did not know this before you would just get a routine i.v. which can make it harder for some people to use natural options for pain management like shower, bath, etc. [ Reply | More ]

wow - I feel bad for you. To be honest I don't really care about pissing doctors off, when it comes to my body I don't see how being able to have a conversation with my doctor and be some what on a level field is wrong. I also don't see how it is micromanaging to not go for an i.v if it is not necessary..there is not reason to have an iv if you don't have meds, if you are able to drink and keep liquids down you will stay hydrated. For many women their birth experience matters and it is not about micromanaging your doctors or nurses it is about know what they hell they are doing to you and know what your options are.. Whatever. I just don't think reading a few articles trumps medical school and years of experience. I found this whole idea of dr's being really pushy during birth to be completely untrue and you could always get a midwife. Trust me, mid contraction you are not going to be thinking about iv's or anything else. [ Reply | More ]

true and not true. you can have a heplock which is not connected to anything, it allows for more freedom of movement...and in an emergency if needed they can get a line in...what do you think they do when people get into car accidents or have heart attacks..they start lines when needed. Yes, but most babies are not breech (and some breech babies are born vaginally). In other words, most women are going to have a vaginal birth and could benefit from learning about the process beforehand. Classes can't stop medical problems that come up, but they can be really useful if there are no such problems. I know that my births wouldn't have gone as well if I hadn't took classes and learned about birth beforehand. [ Reply | More ]

She does not work (and because of $ she inherited was not working when she met him). After the legal fees and the amount they settled on, she is very angry because it is not enough and she is going to have begin working to maintain the lifestyle she is accustomed to.
