He was so picked on that he had permission to leave every class 3 minutes early so he could safely get to his next class without being beaten and threatened in the halls. I know this is going to be unpopular but I don't believe cyber bullying is the sole cause. Plenty of children are bullied and do not committ suicide. There have to be underlying mental problems. I have the same issue and my understanding is that the only complete fix is surgery, where they use some sort of mesh to connect the muscles. Mine gets better with exercise, then I don't have time to exercise and it gets worse again and I have lower back pain. Will probably get surgery to correct, but want to be sure we are all done with babies before doing it. Of course insurance does not cover this. [ Reply | More

You don't need a permit, it just means that anyone else can come use the space and someone with a permit could potentially kick you out. My son gets OT and has been recieving services since he is a baby. Today, my dh and I requested they holdour son back. The administrations and teachers tried to convince us that 3rd grade is not a big deal, meanwhile he has a 52 average in math (we have given him tutoring etc.). My friends son is on par with my son, except her son is passing Math. but his teacher and the administration recommended that he get held back. My ds was the oldest in his class simply from the way his bday fell. I always thought it was a big advantage for him to be older and bigger. If in doubt, I would probably keep your son back unless he felt very strongly about staying with his class. A year can make a big difference for a kid. But the teachers must feel like he will catch up if he moves ahead. I'm not sure there's a right answer, but if he's going to stay back, it's better to do it in the lower grades [ Reply | More

No one ever sees their own kids for what they actually are. I don't have any opinion to offer you for your situation, other than to say I would at least take the school's thoughts into consideration. Perhaps go back to his teacher, if you have a good relationship, or the principal one on one and express your concerns. They can't speak to you about the other child specifically but maybe they can speak in broad terms. As the mom of a son (going to college in the fall) with similar issues, I would tell you that there are rarely any perfectly great decisions. Holding him back to get him a stronger academic foundation may backfire as he may be bored in some subjects. I would advise you to ask them why they want to hold one kid back and not the other and listen carefully to their answer.
