np: I think that it really depends on the lifestyle you have there. If you are the hang out at home, invite friends over, grill in the backyard, go to the beach kind of people and rarely go "out" in the Hamptons, then it IS low key. but if you are going to want to be part of the scene, go out, go to parties and benefits, etc. then ow, it's no low key at all. only you know what's important to you. i have friends that have gone out there for years, some have chosen one path and some have chosen the other. kind of like living in Manhattan - not everyone is about the latest in spots, in designer, benefit, party, hot spot. They don't in the real world. Only on UB with a bunch of insecure strivers. However, it does seem like there have been some issues in the past 12 months with several cruises. I think that's partly because they've been building such large ships very quickly, and IMO quality control has been lacking. I would go with an older ship for a cruise. Alaskan cruises in particular are held in high regard. [ Reply | More ]

I like cruises, but I understand the bad rap. When I go, I get a balcony room and spend a great deal of time on the balcony - I love the ocean sight, sound and feel as the ship is cruising. Then we go off at the stops in different countries and enjoy the area (we try to do things outside of the tourist area). The bad rap is due to the cheesy entertainment (awful), the overpriced ship shopping (awful products), the "formal" dinners (contrived), and the bulk food. I stick to the salad bar. [ Reply | More ]

a, because they're relatively affordable, and a lot of people on UB like to prove they're better than everyone else because they only do things that cost a billion $$ a day, and b, because they're more about tourism than travel - you're not going to discover an off-the-radar gem when your giant cruise ship pulls into port. Shaved ice. Barring that, blend lots of ice cubes with water until you make slush, then drain well and pour/scoop into a bowl. You can add some sugar-free Jell-O powder to the slush if you like and reblend - it becomes kind of like a slurpee. Feel better! [ Reply | More ]

See what companies are at the job fair, target 3-5 of them and go to their websites and take some notes. Personnel working the fairs are much more enthusiastic about those who have some idea about the company rather than those who just say "Well, I heard about this job fair and decided to come over." This advice applies if it's a single company job fair. if that's the case, target an area of the company and show your knowledge of it. [ Reply | More ]

North fork is not pretentious. It's great for families. Peconic bay beaches are amazing. No waves, perfect for kids. Our favorite is the hamlet of Cutchogue, though all of Southold town is great. You will love it! [ Reply | More ]
