[ - ] Need advice on my 7 yr DS. He is faltering in school in school. He is a "very bright" boy according to his teacher and an excellent reader. He also usually does quite well in math but the last month or so he has been doing poorly all around except for reading and spelling! The thing is he that's he not even trying at this point. He comes home with a daily checklist of things he's working on (mostly organizational and listening but also on his work for the day) and it's practically worse every day. He refuses to write (his major challenge) but not making excuses constantly to go to the bathroom during math and just not paying attention during social studies. He is basically not doing much of his work suddenly. No major changes at home and nothing else very different at home that I noticed in his behavior. He's the same defiant little guy he has always been. He's basically a good kid and big heart but he says he's bored. He has an IEP and is in a CCT class. Any advice is welcome. When it was done it was mostly for a little bit of speech and for OT-fine motor skills stuff which supposedly he is on par now with his classmates. However, I'm happy to have him in a classroom with two teachers and now as he's getting older and school harder, he needs the extra help with much of his work and most esp writing. have you had neuropsych eval? there are a lot of possible causes of writing difficulty, and when writing is hard that affects almost everything else in school. not uncommon to fake disinterest rather than admit difficulty or do a poor job. [ Reply | More

[ - ] I posted a few months ago about my DD, who missed the cutoff for private K by two days. Older DS is already at the school. I talked to the admissions person and she told me that in her fifteen years as the head of admissions, they never made a single exception to the age cutoff rule. So I made other arrangements and DD was accepted into another private K. I just found out, from more than one trusted source, that the school accepted a kid that was two months past the cutoff last year bc the parents are connected somehow and were able to pressure the school. I'm just really pissed that the admissions head could lie straight to my face like that. Is there anything to be gained by confronting her with it? Or should I just suck it up and deal? I'm planning to transfer my daughter to the school the year after next--she can enter 1st grade bc she will have completed a year of K by then and I don't want to mess her acceptance up.
