her friends are getting engaged at 23? Very young. Acting is a tough field. Did she go to college? Does she have a back-up career option?

A lot of people feel like a failure at that age. Does she really want to get engaged at 23? Sheesh. Tell her to go do something that won't make her feel like a failure.

Tell her that if that's the life she wants- being engaged and working 9-5- then go out there and get it. She's young, she can make her life whatever she wants.

It's part of her career. She has to look around at her acting friends and realize this. It's extremely tough. My dear friend is an actress and didn't get a break on Broadway until she was 41. She worked regional theater, commercials etc until then. This might not cheer up a 23 y/o but that's the reality. I would say she should hang out with more "acting" friends.

Maybe finding meaningful work to supplement the acting will help her to feel better about herself. She should look at the Actors Fund, they have an employment and training program.

Biting is not cool, but neither is destroying an art project. The biter should be disciplined, but the other child should apologize either in writing(written by the teacher or mom if needed and signed by the child.

Biting is biting and I'm not sure what the foster care part has anything to do with this. Biting is what five year's do. If the teacher has handled this, you need to MYOB.

If you spend a lot of time in London, wouldn't you have the answer to your own question? Fwiw, I never met a kid named Rhiannon when I lived in London (come to think of it, I don't think I've ever met anyone named Rhiannon).

No, because nearly everyone we know in London is not British. They are all Italian and French and have not a clue about what's cool or uncool in British names. None of them have kids yet either.

I don't know... honestly, if the kid has one welsh grandparent and has a name like that, it seems strivery. I mean, my father is 100% off the boat German but my mom is not, and my DH's parent's arent... it would be kind of weird for me to have children named Bernhardt and Otto.

I just eat until I am satiated- definitely isn't the whole meal. Then I take the rest home or, if that's not feasible (on our way to a show or something), then I guess it gets tossed. Which I feel bad about, but I feel more bad if I eat a 1300 calorie dinner, so something's gotta give.

You don't need a changing table. I had one and never used it. Always changed baby on my bed...so much more space and easier. Fisher price bouncer that we used and loved was the rain forest bouncer. Never had a swing on,y used the bouncer. Playmat had the Fisher price rainforest playmat.

don't need a changing table - don't need a playmat - if you are bf you need a good pump. I didn't buy bottles - just used the ones that came from docs office and hospital (got extras) to store. You might want a couple of breast pads (cheap). You need burp cloths. Diapers. My favorite things were bouncy seat and baby bjorn. You do not need ear thermometer or wipe warmer.

I d/a--I used the changing table and I also used a playmat, was nice to set the baby up on her mat while I did chores, read a book, etc. I also loved having a nice ear thermometer and still use it with my now-toddler. Nose-frida was my one off-the-wall absolute necessity, so much better than the blue snot bulb you get at the hospital and you really need one. I agree-splurge on the best pump you can, I rented a hospital grade pump and it made a huge difference re: comfort. Eligible for your flexible spending account if you have one. Loved the swing, also loved having an exersaucer when she got bigger.

I had a changing table for #1 and used it all the time. Didn't have space once #2 came along, so used a mat. If you have space, get one--easier on your back. Get a portable swing (FP) and a Gymini play gym/mat.

Don't need a changing table, nor a swing...it just takes up a lot of room and not all kids like a swing. The bouncer is great.can put it down everywhere and made taking showers or a bath easy...just bring the baby with you on the bouncer. The carriers are good but it's so subjective...some like bjorn, other brands are better for others, etc.

my db disliked bouncy seat and rarely used it. I got the most use out of the fisher price Rock and Play (she slept in it at night the first 4 months) and the swing (she slept in it for naps until she was about 4 months old). We also loved our tiny love jungle playmat

^oh, I also bought lanisoh and rarely used it. I had no nipple soreness or cracking at all. Rarely used Boppy either. Do recommend getting a good breast pump. I had the medela pump in style. A friend gave me her used one and I got new tubing (gasp! the horror!) It was totally fine.

I find that I beat myself up less about my weight generally when I don't rely on a scale to tell me how I'm doing. I go by how well my pants fit and how strong I feel physically. Whenever I need a jump-start, I take a day and only eat fruits and veggies (heavy on the veggies) and down as much water as I can handle. I also avoid salt and any beverage that isn't water or green tea.

If you have to show up for a friend for something and he/she will be the center of attention, just show up. You don't need to turn it into your saga of unhappiness. Just be there. Easier if it's a group thing as opposed to one on one.

Wow--I cannot relate at all!! I'm not walking the AIDS walk, but did just get back from a 5K for a very good cause and our general attitude wasn't "it's raining, this sucks," it was "let's do this for all the fallen police officer's families--they are in a worse position than we are, so let's help!" It's all relative. I'm not sure that OP realizes that those folks actually walking in this weather are focusing on the GOOD, not the rain.

I heard that the vast majority of the money does not go to the fund. I would much rather just donate 30 dollars to a good cause than donate 30 dollars towards a 5k fee and know that the fund is getting maybe 7 of those dollars.

This can be true depending on the charity, so direct donation may be better, however, races are a great way to create awareness as well that can have longer lasting effects.

I guess i'm asking because he won't do that. He just won't travel with others and I end up always cooking, cleaning up after dinner , etc. I just need to figure out a way to negotiate a chance to go with others for one trip

I agree with your DH. But wondering why you are cooking and cleaning on vacation anyway? So when you go with a group does DH pitch in? Or you spread out responsibilities?

Impossible to get parked around there--and everyone else going to NY Elite or the Vinegar Factory for the party will be trying to park, too!

if you have been diligent about cleaning up the mess and have paid everything since in a timely fashion, then those items should drop off soon and you should be left with a pretty clean credit record

I have not even attempted to. We've dropped off the grid. My dh lost his job and I became disabled. We use a check cashing place and pay everything using cash and money orders.

Maybe until you can find a small bank to work with.... (or more likely a credit union).

oh man, why did you give up a checking and savings account? start with baby steps now. Set up a checking account and start paying bills thru that - either on line bill pay or with checks. for daily expenses keep using cash. get a credit card thru the bank you get a checking account with after you have had the account open for a year or so. once you get it use it sparingly and pay it off monthly

My dh overdrafts made it impossible to keep our accounts open. Who ever would have thought that a man could be so irresponsible. I was working full time trying to dig us out of this hole, when I came disabled. I am awaiting a transplant and cannot work.

so sorry, i am not sure how you are going to be able to do this unless he has cleaned up his act and will agree not to spend more than you have. Can you open an account in your name with $20 and then forget about it for a while? and whenever you do have some $ to deposit it - just to get a bank account established again.

And if you had paid your card on time, that would have been fine. But you didn't, so now you owe interest. If you don't like it, don't use credit cards, but that is how they work.

This was for a 12$ shirt years ago. I actually sent a money order of 87$ for this shirt and they lied payment was late. This was already way more money than the 12$. Then they kept sending me letters that I had to pay more interest. It's now up to 400$. This should be illegal and I'm never paying it. NEVER.

NP: but there needs to be removal of the usuary rate exemption that is afforded national banks - in nYC I think the Loansharking rate is 25% - but national credit cards get away with 30 - 32% in default situations - it is not right and not good for society.

Yes it is... they run a separate set of records internally and will NOT give you new credit if they can lawfully get away with it.

I should add not all banks do this but HSBC and Citi do in my direct, personal experience having stiffed them both.

I love how directly you say that; I am working on credit recovery right now - which amounts to paying people back what I rightfully owe them, so of these cards got carried away and started slapping on interest rates I could never repay.

+1. A lot of people don't believe this... they think the credit score is the be all and end all of the banks decision. But the bank is entitled (and obligated) to refuse credit to risky lenders and a previous default shows the applicant is exactly that...
