[ - ] Wondering if other SAHM feel the way I do: I worked full-time for many years before I had DC. Love her to pieces, have really enjoyed being a SAHM although it's so very different from my previous life. My complaint/issue is that I feel like my life is constantly in chaos. I tried doing FlyLady.net recently, it has helped. We have moved 3x in the last 3 years, it's been very hard. Every time my life is ripped up, our things are a mess, I have to reorganize everything, put everything away. It takes me at least 1 year each time, etc. Fortunately we will stay where we are for at least another 3-5 years while we build up funds to buy a house and put down roots (in Westchester County.) My daughter is a momma's girl, she goes to preschool 3x/week 9-2, so that helps... but I feel like I never get a break. I'm constantly on the go, shuffling lists... stuff is slowly getting done, but I still feel like I'm struggling to manage the chaos, the constant interruptions from her, the interruptions of various appointments, etc. I work part-time now (group ex instruction) so that adds to the chaos/scheduling... does it ever get easier/clearer? I feel like my brain has been permanently damaged from the interruptions, sleep deprivation (she's a good sleeper overall, but we've had issues of her waking at night, etc., she's much better now though). I have trouble concentrating sometimes. As I said, I just feel like I'm constantly in a state of chaos, and I want to feel like things are more under control. Have a housekeeper who comes 2x/week to help (house is pretty big, so I can't get it all done myself.) Anyone BTDT, does it get better, what helped you? P.S. Sorry so long. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I am not SAHM, but if your DD is 3 - 4 years old, you're coming out of the hardest years from a time management standpoint. As they get older they get more independent, which helps with giving you blocks of time to get things done. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] what would you do? A friend may sign a business deal with the company I work for. The company typically pays people who refer business 10% (not sure how it would be yet, probably $5K - $10K commission). I know from past experience that if the person who would get the commission says to give it back to client, that isn't what the company owner does. He keeps it, sometime offering free service for a period of time, sometime not (at least not apparently). I sure could use the money (2 kids in college, one in private school) but feel a little weird about it. (if I take the money and pass it to her, it would show up on my income so I would pay taxes on it - pass her the net amount?) 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] S/O Ugly Lena Dunham post: Jennifer Garner is a plain jane (plain jen) who married way above her. Ben Affleck is gorgeous and will always turn heads, especially now as he is aging well and becoming more accomplished in his career. He will be like George Clooney in terms of hotness as he ages. Jennifer Garner is a plain jane who no one would notice walking down the street. People who think she is "beautiful" are likely plain janes themselves who want to believe they can get someone as hot as Ben too. These are the same people who water down the word "beautiful" to encompass anyone, including really ugly individuals. But the truth is -- Ben got a bad deal. BEN IS WAY TOO HOT FOR PLAIN JANE JEN. If you are honest, you will admit Jennifer Garner (though not ugly) is not beautiful and the very definition of Plain Jane/Jen. 52 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Calling "Plain Janes" beautiful allows regular folks to think they themselves are beautiful too. They don't want to compare themselves to the truly physically beautiful women. It would be too depressing for them, so they grab hold of these Plain Janes types like Jennifer Garner and say that is "beautiful" so that they don't feel so bad about themselves. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 05.20.13, 06:17 PM Flag

They can reach the Jennifer Garner-level of "beauty" while true physical beauty like Angie and Charlize are beyond their grasp. Redefining beauty to include Plain Janes and the Girl Next Door types allows them to call themselves beautiful. It's kinda like grade inflation when an A is not really an A. So it is now that "beautiful" no longer means "beautiful," but average and not threatening and likable with a good personality. [ Reply | More ]

Well, she has very cute dimples. She always looked very cute/nerd on Felicity with her glasses and dimples. Ben might be aging well, but that may be in part due to his wife. He admittedly has an addictive personality. He quit smoking at Jennifer's encouragement, and I don't think he drinks anymore, either. Both of those could age his "hotness" quite a bit. Plus have you ever seen his huge, amazingly awful tattoo that he has? It's on his arm or back and it's absolutely hideous. It's always airbrushed in movies. Many women would have dumped him for that alone. I'm saying it's a tradeoff, not as one-sided as you think. [ Reply | More ]

People, especially women, who rationalize this unequal relationship comfort themselves that personality makes up for beauty. It seems true with Jen and Ben's relationship. But don't try to tell me this plain jen is beautiful. She is the girl next door type, which many women are comfortable with. That's why they "love" Jennifer Garner -- she is no threat to their vanity. But you should see the claws come out when we talk about really sexy and beautiful women like Angelina, or Kate, or Megan. Yoga teacher here - I would avoid it past 1st trimester. You can lie on your left side with a bolster next to you, and drape your right leg over the bolster (like a body pillow) - so relaxing, I often do this for savasana even when not pregnant. [ Reply | More ]

YW - congrats! I would not really be spending a lot of time on your stomach anymore at this point either (if at all), honestly. You can lie flat on your back if that feels good to you still, just be really cautious about feeling lightheaded and/or winded at ALL. [ Reply | More ]

Why not stomach? I've never read about avoiding lying on my stomach, and I actually sleep on my stomach now that I can't sleep on my back. On my back, because I get anxious about the fact that I'm on my back, I get pretty lightheaded easily - self-fulfilling thing I guess. [ Reply | More ]

OP here - yes, I prefer advice from OB as well. I don't read fitness magazines. Though there are some decent research-based books out that discuss fitness in pregnancy - obviously OB trumps those, to the extent the advice conflicts, though. [ Reply | More ]

np. Can you at least agree you need to work on your agreeing skills? In all seriousness, if you can agree on some couples therapy, do that first. DH and I have agreed that if we ever reach the point where we want to divorce, we would put a serious effort in therapy first. [ Reply | More ]

We have tried it and dh always thinks he's being picked on. He has anger management issues since childhood and its a major problem, but he always wants me to say I'm 50% at fault. At this point I'm ready to say "whatever" [ Reply | More ]

Well, there's your answer. He needs anger management if this is so serious. I do not recommended therapy lightly, but if there is no cheating or abuse involved, I say try to work very hard before going through divorce, esp if there are DCs involved. Marriage is hard and it takes work. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Moms of boys: Not that you would know this exactly, but approximately what age or growth spurt does the penis grow? I have a 4th grade 10 yo boy who says he's being teased in locker room. He asked me "is my penis small?" I just said it grows during puberty. I have 2 dds and 1 ds. I have no idea when it grows. Dh doesn't remember (he is on the big side), hopefully it's hereditary. Sorry so long. Tia. 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

2 DSs here, age 9. Very different sizes so I think some of it is pre-determined (prior to puberty). But I'm obviously no expert! DH is well-endowed but I think the men on my side of family are more average. [ Reply | More ]

I don't know, but you need to teach him some comebacks: "I wouldn't know. I don't look at other guys' packages." "Your mother doesn't seem to mind." "Don't worry. My doctor says it's hereditary. Mine will get huge and yours will eventually look normal...probably." [ Reply | More ]

My son is 10 and has not begun to develop at all and his penis is still small. Our pediatrician told us recently that 11-13 it can be any time, but many boys (and girls) are developing earlier becausse of all the hormones in our food supply. If your family doesn't eat meat or eats only organic and natural meats, then you don't have to worry about this early development. [ Reply | More ]

You order online, just like you would for Fresh Direct or Netflix. Seamless works with menupages.com, so I just go there and see if the restaurant page I'm looking at has a seamless button on the page. then you click on the link and order. I don't think it's better than phone ordering, but it's more convenient in many situations. [ Reply | More ]
