I tell you what. It acknowledges that YES it is a burden to menstruate and yes we need more rest on those days. He's very well behaved but when he loses interest, he will get up leave or tell you he doesn't want to do this any longer. I'm asking because my dds would sit for hours doing this without losing interest. Thanks! 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I used to be a preschool teacher. It is almost always the case that little girls will sit and read while boys are crazy balls of energy. Of course, some boys like to read and some girls have crazy energy, but for the most part, this is 100% normal. [ Reply | More ]

OP: thank you. I thought it was normal. He will sit and listen to certain books (like goodnight construction site) but his teacher is bothered that he won't look at the book or her as she reads. She said he will look but mostly will look away...but will answer questions about the story correctly if asked. She's an older woman and I guess wants them all to sit and stare eagerly at her [ Reply | More ]

So the issue is not sitting quietly or listening. The issue is he doesn't look directly at someone when she speaks. Does he have this issue with anyone else? If you notice he avoids looking at people in general, tha tmight be an issue. If not, see what happens next year with a new teacher. And stop comparing your DC. [ Reply | More ]

Of course it's normal. There are some boys who will sit - but not many. Boys and girls are different - you have to figure out what works for your DC. The shrew will focus OVERMUCH on her own personal advancement. Take two girls in biglaw. One lives with roommates, saves as much as she can, uses her vacation time to visit friends and family in other states or for "staycations" at home with family, and she lives well below her means. She doesn't need a guy to make six figures or have a good college degree to be marriage material, all he needs is a steady middle-class income and solid values. The other one lives in a fancy full-service apartment, does BIGBRUNCH and BIGTRAVEL and BIGSHOPPING, humblebrags on Facebook about every little thing that she thinks is impressive about her life (like "checking in" to the international terminal at the airport or taking pictures of champagne bottles). Guys must make six figures at the very least, and must have gone to the right high schools and colleges for her to even give them the time of day. Both may have the same job and career goals, but one is clearly much more shrewish than the other. [ Reply | More ]

but they are both shrews. even the stayathome is a shrew. she stays home till the kids move out, around age 20. Back tracking, we see that once the kids start school, she starts being a lady who lunches; a yoga fanatic, likes to spend her husbands money on spa days and ombre pedicures and learns to golf. She joins a few social clubs or volunteer organizations which burn up a solid 4 hours of her week. The rest of the time she works on her inner goddess, perfecting her souffle, gossiping about whos getting a divorce, who is cheating on who, and interfering in her young adult childrens lives. The train is all the way over in Asbury Park and you have to walk through a dodgy neighborhood to get there. You'll need to have a car to do just about anything. If you're a city person, don't take the job. [ Reply | More ]

I did date a Korean guy for a short time. He pursued me for a year before I decided to give it a chance. Now I have another guy of a different ethnic and religious background asking me out, and I am hesitant. Not sure how to discuss our differences and the role they would play in our future. Maybe it is too soon for that conversation, but it has to happen...so when? [ Reply | More ]

This is why I'm glad I grew up in the South. We actually lived side by side with all kinds of people and married them and have families with them! I have a hard time thinking of anyone in my family or town who married anyone who was exactly like them. We don't just use people as token minorities in our private schools or nannies for our kids! NYC liberals. They're a hypocritical hoot! [ Reply | More ]

Where in the south? NYC used to be much more diverse when I was growing up, it has become very elite and white in the past 15 years. [ Reply | More ]

My family is from 3 different states in the South and I lived in 2. Louisiana and South Carolina. My sister and her AA husband live in Georgia now too. And we have loads of family in Alabama. Oh. FYI. Anything that's not the panhandle in FL is not the South. It's fairly clear from the national census though. Percentage-wise the South has alot more minorities and intermarriage. Yeah. New Yorkers definitely don't have it together either! I can't imagine this happening at a high school in the South. http://ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-858297 [ Reply | More ]

Well, that explains it. I can't imagine an all-white town in the south. And people tend to marry who they are comfortable with. Here in NYC the only people of color my child encounters are doormen, nannies, cashiers and homeless people. [ Reply | More ]

This is true. At least in the south people aren't afraid to let you know they don't like your kind. In NYC everyone pretends they accept each other and then call you names behind your back. [ Reply | More ]

In all honesty it is hard for me to relate to this. What is the nature of your struggle exactly? Just aren't attracted? Or worry that you will clash over values/heritage stuff? Divorced now, but was married to a middle eastern guy for a long time. I actually felt like that cultural diversity brought a lot to our relationship. [ Reply | More ]

OK well if you aren't attracted, you aren't attracted. But if you are, just try it. I assume you aren't marrying the guy on the first date. But also realize that for all the differences, there will be many commonalities too and don't forget to enjoy those as opposed to just thinking about differences. [ Reply | More ]
