[ - ] My 4 yo dd is negative much of the time. She woke up this morning angry with me bc she couldn't find something she had misplaced. She does this a lot. She gets angry at me over things that I have no part of. It's almost like dealing with adult. She has been tested and very high IQ and very verbal. Psychologist says not to engage with her but that's impossible. Stay cal, talk her through it but doesn't solve the negativity and anger that appears suddenly.. [ - ] Last year my son got a perfect OLSAT score and a 160 on the SB. Was reading chapter books and doing second-grade equivalent arithmetic on arrival in gen-ed K. He's learning socialization, teamwork, and smattering of science & social studies. At reading time, they read in groups, and my son is in his own "group" at a reading level above the rest of the class. He has a ton of friends, loves music, drama and recess and he's happy. Sometimes during the academic part of the day he might be bored, and personally I think it's a good thing. while I agree with you and didn't prep my child, gifted also can't be measured by a standardized test given by untrained teachers. My ds bombed the test (89%) but now, in first grade, is reading and writing on a 4th grade level and doing his 5th grade sibling's math. I'm very happy where we are (a private that is accomodating to his individual needs) but there is no doubt that he is gifted even though NYC school system would say he isn't because he was too shy to work with the tester he had never met before at 4 years old. "Gifted" is how NYC keeps educated, MC families in its public schools. Otherwise they would flee to the burbs or private schools. Don't even go that far. You should have told your common "friend," "If Margie has something to say to me, I'm sure she'll tell me herself." And leave it at that.
