is this Theresa of RHONJ? jk. I don't think you are being ridiculous, save some recipes for yourself and make them. I wouldn't get too wrapped up in the recipes themselves b/c so many people make the same recipe all of the time yet everyones will still be different.

Maybe a little. If you each have the same recipes, only the greater artist wins anyway. Isn't that the lesson of all these cooking/baking shows? Recipes aren't going to make you a great baker/chef. If that were true all the books in my kitchen would make me the author of those books.

Is your sister local? If so, go into business together - you bakes, she decorates. If she isn't, sharing your recipes with your sister and making money off them on your own aren't mutually exclusive. That said, it is totally reasonable not to want to share your recipes.

I think you are being a little silly. The recipe isn't really the only thing that sells a product. It's the whole packaging, marketing, sales etc. I imagine you feel slightly jealous that she's taken steps to make this a reality and you haven't yet. If you start trying to get out there a little you will feel much less frustrated about her.

Depends. If you ask me "how are you?" I will never answer "busy". It's one of my pet peeves. EVERYONE is busy, but everyone has the ability to choose what their priorities are and then everyone should REFRAIN from complaining about there life. I WOH FT, have a 2yo and a 3yo, have many many relatives in town. We always have somehitng going on or something to do, but I prefer to think of it as "having fun" rather than "being busy".

Millenium park has the art sculpters that spit out water and the kids play in that. Plus Target has a tent full of actitivites for the kids to do in there. There's also brookfiled zoo, shed aquarium, and Great America.

Ditto Millennium Park. Check the Target kids schedule -- they have frequent kids concerts too. Great America is a trek (over an hour) and isn't geared towards kids that young, so I'd skip that. Museum of Science and Industry is not on the museum campus with the other museums (it is down in Hyde Park), but it is fun and has quite a bit of hands-on activities for little ones. Navy Pier has more than just the Children's Museum, so that can be fun. Depending on when you go, you may overlap with Taste of Chicago -- which I hate, but my kids love. And many of the street fests have kid-centric events too.

I'm looking for a 5 day, mornings program. He is currently in 3 day in nyc and is thriving. i want a real preschool, not a day care; a play based curriculum in a school with a good reputation. Looking at places to live in June so still not sure of location but figure i'll probably be driving him? Looking in Lincoln park and gold coast but open to other areas of the city (husband wants to be near the water, i want to be near families.)

The ones I don't like would probably love the negative publicity. There are some regular posters that I do like a lot, though. They tend to be reasoned and thoughtful and contribute to the discussion, rather than just "having an opinion." The ones that just blow up about how they are simply voicing their opinion, but not doing it in a way that contributes anything, are useless.

I like least the ones who describe some situation and then ask, "Was I out of line?" or "Am I crazy to be mad about this?" who get all indignant when somebody says "yes" and then claim they are being "bullied." Heck, the ones who claim that anyone is "bullying" anyone on an anonymous internet chat board.

Lakeview has a nice family vibe. Old town has $$, as does Lincoln park, though LP also has a lot of college kids (DePaul). Roscoe Village is probably the best value, property-wise. South loop is up-and-coming but I haven't seen many kids there. Check out Logan Square and Wicker Park too - nice SFH available, many parks and playgrounds.

They are all fine and very similar except for South Loop. That one doesn't really fit in the group. Why don't you just pick the schools that you're comfortable with and then see what homes are available and do it that way. All those areas are nice.

OR: you can do either. Lincoln park has a great school. Nettlehorst in Lakeview is a good public elementary. If you want private, old town has Catherine cook, LP has Francis Parker and Lakeview has Chicago day, I think.

There are lot of good CPS schools. The privates all have great reputations too, but I haveno interest in shelling about 25-30K/year for private elementary. I guess it depends on your means. There are certainly plenty of good CPS options for elementary (high school is a different story).

NP: I can understand questioning why a zoo would raise membership fees in this economy. Zoos need more money, but if they raise fees then they'll likely have fewer members. Fewer members (and fewer visitors) can make it tougher to solicit big grants or corporate sponsorships, as well as means fewer opportunities to grow those new entering members into potential bigger donors and supporters. It's a balancing act, and all nonprofits of this type (museums, zoos, etc.) struggle to find the perfect balance. Raising membership fees has a lot of pitfalls, and not something any nonprofit would take lightly. There are a lot of risks, and it's not as easy as looking at the membership dues line in the budget.

No. A foreclosure action is b/w the bank and owner...the board has little say in the matter. The condo board's obligation is only to recoup any unpaid assessments.

Thanks. I realize that a board isn't involved in a foreclosure, except if assessments are delinquent. I'm just wondering if there is a fiduciary obligation to let other owners know about it, because it affects their property interest. Sort of sensitive and unpleasant all around.

No, no fiduciary duty. And it may be problematic if they reveal confidential info about the owner who is being foreclosed upon. Besides the info is public. You can find out when the notice of foreclosure is filed on realtytrac.com

Chicago is very different than NYC. Latin and Parker are the "old guard" schools -- and both admit all legacies and siblings. So only about 10 spots in a given year for new kids ( and most to diversity or big $$). These schools have a lot of prestige associated with them, but coming from NYC I was not impressed ( above other schools) with them academically in the lower schools. ( high school, when the class size grows, is a different story with Latin but still not impressed with Parker). However I did love each school's campus, sense of tradition, community. In terms of pure academics, I didn't find any difference - except with philosophy - between Latin, Parker, Chicago City Day, Sacred Heart, St Clement, Anshe Emet, FXW - all great schools with different things going for them. You really have to look. I thought Catherine Cook was the weakest of the group, and British School the strongest with a nice NYC feel. But it's about what you think - academically a relatively level playing field. ( I didn't mention Lab because that is an entirely different animal, with most spots reserved for professor's kids). In Chicago we are less caught up in all this BS

Yes, five years ago we moved from NYC and both British and Catherine Cook were great about talking to us past the admissions deadline for 3 yr old preschool, and we ultimately got in to both over the summer. We loved the people we met at Catherine Cook, it was a warm and lovely place, but British just felt like New York to us if that makes sense. Sometimes you need a little NY in the midwest! We then looked at all the other schools for JK. We originally thought we would want Latin, but discovered it is more about status than anything else. Don't get me wrong, I actually think that is a valid reason to chose a school, but by that time we were so happy at BSC and so impressed with it. And pretty much everyone who wants gets into Latin for middle school, or to one of the selective enrollment high schools. For what its worth the other school we really loved was Sacred Heart. Just look at all the schools, stop worrying about tier and love the fact that there are no ERBs

got cut off, sorry. most kids who want to are getting into Latin and Lab for high school, as well as the selective enrollment public high schools. ( My post above also got cut off, not used to posting here). What I said above is that I do think Catherine Cook is probably the weakest academically, and British School the strongest, but this is all subjective. Also really loved Sacred Heart.

All of these schools are great academically. To me, the big distinction is between the schools that go through high school and those that don't. Latin, Lab and Parker all go through high school (British just started one, too.), but the rest don't. As is the case in NYC, applying and getting in is a PITA, so if you can avoid it, do!

Oh, I think he is baiting the union in hopes of a strike so he can pull a Ronald Reagan "air traffic controller" thing and fire every last teacher. Which would be really awful and funny when he fills schools with brand new teachers and more than half quit within the first year and the rest don't know what the hell they are doing and scores plummet. I think he wants to eliminate the teacher's union but not sure if he's calculated the final fall out from that very well.

Wow, under that scenario would they really have to hire all newbies or could they hire back the fired teachers after they re-apply? Can't see there being enough newbie teachers to fill each and every position in CPS. And the hiring process would be chaos. How exactly is he baiting the union? What's he offering?

Please. He doesn't want to have to fire all of them. But he probably does want them to look bad so he has the public on his side. Sadly, the union leaders are making that really easy.

I think there is going to be a strike this fall. I personally know teachers at about two dozen schools in all parts of the city and every single one has between 90-100% of its teachers saying they are ready and willing to strike. And that's without even knowing what the contract details will be. All teachers know is that they are no longer able to bargain over basically anything at all other than money and we know we won't be getting much of a raise if anything at all. It won't be popular but families need to start at least thinking of what they'll do for childcare for a few days up to a few weeks come August and September.

Because she is incredibly passive-agressive, and whenever she gets called on it, or other bad behavior, she plays victim, whines about 'bullies', and mean girls, and how awful everyone else is to her, and how she has a secret cabal of moms who totally agree with her but are 'too afraid' to post publically. She seems really, really unself-aware of it, too, which is odd in an adult woman. She ruins every thread she participates in, for me, because she doesn't understand the difference between having an opinion and judging someone, and is incapable of writing in declarative, comprehendible sentences.

Also, she is fast on the 'needs moderation' button. If you disagree with her and call her on her nonsense, she will report your post, which means a moderator has to wade through the thread. It is a huge waste of time. I have been reported for merely disagreeing with her, which is ridiculous - literally, with no other commentary, simplying saying, "I like the red one" when she has said she liked the blue. Persecution complex, for the win!

Dads frequently want to be seen as funny. What's that about? One pretty funny Dad stalked off over a year ago because some thought his humor was a little inconsiderate at times.

I don't remember that -- which "Dad" was that? I only remember the Sears Tower-joke dad getting his panties in a bunch, but he's still there.

I'd be curious about the ones who have to hire a professional organizer to clean their cabinets, are concerned about their engagement rings and can spend lots of time on very expensive birthday parties. Not condemning them, but their lives seem to different from mine.

Not me. I don't think I'd have much to talk about with some of these posters.

Whoever you are above accusing someone of reporting you are full of shit. There is no way to know who reports.

Yeah, probably. She doesn't seem to have a lot of awareness of a world outside of her own, which I guess is more common in a younger rather than older person. She definitely doesn't seem very pleasant to be around.

Interesting assumption, but I'm under 30, and disagreed with her ton and judgements.

She sounded like the woman a few months ago who was in danger of being homeless. The same endless sentences and run on thinking.

I remember her. She kept coming up with excuses for why suggestions wouldn't work, while at the same time seeming desperate for help. I couldn't figure out what the heck she wanted. It was like you couldn't get through to her. The playground poster seemed to get it, a little, by the end. I think. That thread got pretty off track.

I couldn't really get a sense of what she might be like. Confusing posts. I thought the weirdest thing was being upset with other parents at the park who were playing with their own kids, because then her kid didn't have anyone to play with.

Yes,it was as if she needed to prove that her refusal to play with her kid was based upon a superior philosophy. Great excuse for those moms I see in the park who are so absorbed on their smartphones that they can't look up when their kids call them.

I am LOVING the post about saggy neck dh below. That OP is too funny. I think it is a troll, but I'm kind of hoping it is real because she truly is like a character right out of a dark comedy.

Loved that one! I don't know anything about the woman who posted it, but I think it was a nice counterbalance to the one about the board making people feel awful.

It was good that people ran with it and had some fun. And it wasn't a direct slam of the stress post.

There does seem to be a lot of stress expressed on NPN lately.

I must admit that I do like the vents. NPN is a great place to come and vent, usually without being judged for doing so.

I like the one about fashionistas as well. I have a feeling a lot of these women look good, have full-time jobs and kids, and I could use all the tips I can get.
