this - I have to imagine that at least with frozen veggies they can be picked at the peak of ripeness, in which case between that vs. fresh veggies it's at least a wash

That's actually not true, though it is a popular rumor. You lose some nutrition when you cook veggies over high heat, yes. However, in the microwave, you're only cooking them for a couple of minutes vs. twice that long in a pan. So less nutrients lost.
