we had a neighbor like this. my dh set up a "sting" operation, where he woke up when the paper got delivered, and then taped a piece of dental floss to it, and stuck one end under the front door so it was visible from inside. then he hid in the entryway with a baseball bat, and waited for our end of the dental floss to get pulled under the door (meaning the neighbor was taking the paper). the moment that happened, my DH opened the door with the baseball bat, and charged at the neighbor. he swung it once halfheartedly at him, and punched a hole in the hallway. the neighbor (one of the rent controlled ones), literally peed his pants, and my husband said if we ever had another paper stolen, he would literally kill him. no further problems. nah, dh is a big intimidating guy, and he figured he just had to let out a bit of the crazy to fix the problem from ever recurring. it was all very calculated. afterwards, we were laughing hysterically about it, esp the part where this 70 year old man peed his pants. atrocious, i know, but desperate times call for desperate measures. at least now, we get out papers without worry! I DH is big and intimidating, he didn't need to arm himself with a baseball bat. I've had my paper stolen numerous times and it angered me. However, the thought of scaring a 70 year old man to the point that he pees himself makes me ill. [ Reply | More

I have taken the magazine = years ago if the neighbor went away for 2 weeks and the papers would stack up outside day after day. Besides taking up the hall and stacking they will obviously toss them all because they didn't want to call and delay delivery. Like people still know you are taking a vacation or aren't home.
