My 5th grade DS is applying to private 6th grade, he'll be taking ISEE next week. I didn't enroll him in a prep class or hire a tutor but I bought the Stanley Kaplan book. He just took a 3 hour mock test from the book. While I'm not really familiar with how most children do on these, I was somewhat concerned that he did not seem to do very well. In the reading section he got 12 out of 20 correct in match achievement 19 out of 35. What types of stanines will this put him in 5, 6?

He needs to practice more than once. Buy another book and have him do it again. My dc did much better the second time. They need to get used to it, and be able to work fast enough to finish.

bright kids has very good ISEE lower book i juts bought. i felt like stanley kaplan was more middle school and upper school geared. I would try that - my daughter did nto do as well on the kaplan but did better on soem of the sections of the bright kid book. the book also has stanine correlations so that was helpful. Good Luck!
