Beaches are gorgeous, but Destin is really crowded - maybe try somewhere nearby if you want something quieter, like Cape San Blas, Port Saint Joe, etc....

^^^also, Gulf Shores, AL is pretty nearby, you could fly into Pensacola and drive across. There is a lot to do for kids there if you have DCs. Spent my summers in Gulf Shores growing up.

spring break - end of march. We will be driving this year (eek) from chicago, so it's a lot closer than the rest of fl (we do a different part each year, this is the first time to the panhandle!). I'd love to hear about kid things to do! We are two families, each with two boys, 8 and 6.... I've heard Gulf Shores is amazing!

pp: Spring Break = DO NOT GO TO DESTIN. It will be packed, as will Pensacola. GS might be bad too, but probably not as bad. There are great (fun, burger-joint type) restaurants there, beaches of course, decent fishing on the bay side, Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Fort Morgan, Waterville USA, Dauphin Island, you're close enough to Biloxi, outlet shopping nearby in Foley, the town of Orange Beach, etc....
