Anyone has really bad groin pain during pregnancy? I am in my last trimester. My groin and inner thigh area are totally swollen with varicose veins showing. I also seem to have some kind of bulging hernia down my groin and the shooting pain I get sometimes at night is unbearable. I mentioned to my doc before about the groin pain but he didn't say much about it. Now it is getting worse. I can't roll or get up at night without a lot of pain and therefore can't sleep well at all. Any suggestions for dealing with this?

Wow that sounds awful, sorry! I would bring it up again with the OB and be sure. Can you really just walk around with a hernia? Also, ask if PT might help. I had some really bad lower back pain and at first my ob was kind of like "um hum" but when I said, "Would working with a PT help me?" he was like "Yes" and wrote a script.

I had this. Your doctor should definitely be helping you. In my case, I got the following advice: stay off your feet, wear support hose, get a V2 supporter (support strap for the groin). The hose and V2 supporter require a prescription from your doc. They are expensive but likely covered by your insurance. This gets worse with each pregnancy. The good news is that it goes away with delivery. The bad news, at least for me, was that it is related to an ongoing faulty valve that causes varicose veins in your legs later on. Good luck!

Is the groin pain right in the middle, in the symphysis pubis? If so keeping your legs immobile so there is no non-parallel movement helps. E.g. at night one of those pillows between your knees. Otherwise, for all the swelling, etc I don't know what to tell you but perhaps get a support belt? Spend as much time as possible with your feet up, as reclined as possible. I do think you should push the doctor - tell him you're not willing to live with this level of pain. I've found OBs sometimes don't care as long as nothing is threatening you or baby.

meant to add: the hose and V2 supporter come from a medical supply company

I was just reading about this you need a referral to an SPD physical therapist and need to be careful during delivery, you can injure yourself. I had a much milder version of this a few weeks ago and found that doing "cat cow" yoga pose and keigles really helped, but yours sounds serious!

OP: thx for all the advise. I mentioned a possible Symphysis Pubis Disorder to my doc before and he said that it can't really happen during labor and delivery and pretty much just dismissed me. My doc is the kind that unless I am dying, he will not do much during pregnancy. Note to never go back to him if I ever get pregnant again. The shooting pain is in the middle of my groin area. I do use pillow between my leg and yesterday I seem to have developed pelvic pain also while laying on my side. Will see him on Tue and force him to take a look down there!!

OP get this checked out immediately! Seek various different opinions and childbirth options if needed. I had a great pregnancy and then post-pregnancy I had separation of the Pubic Symphysis due to normal delivery. It was five months of hell! I was in so much pain that I had to be on painkillers, bed bound for two months and wheel chair bound for three more. I couldn't sit to hold my child for weeks. Unbelievably depressed because of it, immensely to breastfeed, and in the end gained 40 lbs. I had to go for months of physical therapy and even now, 2 years later, if I sit for too long, I'm stiff when I stand up and need a few steps to get back to normal. Talk to your doctors.

Oh god it was the worst. Your post brought it all back. Goes away right after delivery. A belly support belt helps a lot.

OP: Should I try to find a chiropractor for this? any recommendation? As I know my doctor might dismiss me again knowing his last comment about SPD. I certainly don't want to get permanent pubic bone damage during delivery as some have said might happen if the doc and nurse is not familiar with this. How do you even diagnose this as SPD? I kind of don't want to get x-ray if all possible.
