OP - wow, this question really sparked some anger. it was simply a spin off from another question previously asked about engagement rings. For those with all the negativitiy - I dont think carat size has anything to do with the strength or weakness of a marriage, nor am I insecure about my ring or care about what other people think. This is a controversial topic, OP, because it has to do with the overt display of wealth. diamond rings are expensive and many are much more expensive than the top of the line luxury cars. Some women carry 200K on their finger. People WILl judge you by the size of your ring, because they will make assumptions on how rich your husband is, this is the most primitive stereotype there is. Of course, the size doesn't equal quality, and even the price of the ring is not indicative of the level of wealth as there are very wealthy who have tiny rings, because they got them when they were young and poor, and there are wannabes, that spend crazy money on a ring, only to find out later they cannot really afford to tie that much cash into jewelry. But, overall, if you see a woman with a huge diamond ring, you form certain opinions. [ Reply | More
