Has anyone actually seen an OWS protester today? I haven't. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

it's not about your momentary inconvenience. it's about creating a "scene" that will get national media attention on the issues they care about, like fair taxation. [ Reply | More ]

my point is, this is the wrong place to create a scene, maybe try the lobby of a big bank that got rescued, like Citi, or a lobbyist's office in Washington. The subway, not so much. Also, if you're going to SAY you're going to make a big scene, follow up and DO it! [ Reply | More ]

Actually, that's where most of the demos are today. Places like the Bank of America building. Nobody's "threatening to shut down mass transit", although the right wing sound machine has been bleating that for days. There's a small one right now outside the federal building, seems to be about big businesses cynically using the immigration enforcement system to union-bust. [ Reply | More ]

Hello? I walked in front of BOA, nothing but cops. and here is the link to one of the MANY stories this morning (this is CBS below) quoting them about how they're going to shut down mass transit. if you're going to defend these morons, at least have good information. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/11/16/ows-protesters-calling-for-day-of-action-following-loss-of-camp-in-zuccotti-park/ [ Reply | More ]

I'm an ER doctor, and my 'momentary inconvenience' may cost a needy person his or her life because I was late to work. Consider that. Many OWSers aren't. [ Reply | More ]

OP: i was referring to the fact that they DID get tons of press coverage last night, all the papers had that as a lead story this AM, the OWS website had all these aggressive claims about them shutting down NY. I am glad they couldn't get their act together, and they don't seem to have support. Bunch of whiny losers. [ Reply | More ]

that they got tons of press coverage says more about the media's fear of being left out and not really knowing what the hell is going on than it says about ows. [ Reply | More ]

It's a valid question. According to some, they're a bunch of lazy, unorganized, spoiled, slacker idiots, but at the same time we should fear them and their message and they should be destroyed. Why is that? [ Reply | More ]

I'm with you, there is no fear of them, only restraint which will be unleashed once the movement crosses a line - blow something up, hurt a child, shoot a cop - you name it. That is why they all stand around with cell phones hoping to provoke a reaction that gets them maced, hit, arrested. Once OWS hurts the common people in any meaningful way - there will no stopping the government from crushing them. [ Reply | More ]

there is absolutely no evidence that ows is a violent movement or will turn violent. the police, on the other hand, have been extremely violent in crushing any dissent. [ Reply | More ]

If you are talking about the NYPD they have been extremely passive - the only case is the jackass inspector who maliciously maced people - in my opinion he should have been arrested and terminated rather than exiled to Staten Island to receive a nice fat pension. [ Reply | More ]

As far as fear - right so what is to fear from them- that they change the laws so that students loans can be wiped out in bankruptcy, that they stop usuary rates on credit cards, that they arrest bankers who break the law - I have no problem with any of that - no as far as free loans for school and open borders - that simply will not work in the real world. OP I am not afraid of them. I think they are are their own worst enemy. I was just wondering if they went to brunch in Williamsburg instead. I, on the other hand, am FAR from the 1% and I am at work. [ Reply | More ]

And you as part of the 99% will work and work and work until you drop with no hopes of job security or retirement if the 1% continue to control politicians and policy. So have a good day while OWS works for a better future. [ Reply | More ]

They would love to get good jobs and pay taxes, too. And it's not like if they did have good jobs there would be more tax revenue. It would be the same except more people would be contributing. Bjt the 1% won't share the money with the rest of the workers - the wealth of the top 1% keeps going up while the wealth of the 99% keeps going down. Who's fault is that? Why is it a good thing for the few to gain from the labor of the many? Because most people are working really hard yet only a few are prospering. [ Reply | More ]

I think a bunch of them are using it as a crutch. And yes a little less believable when they say one thing and act another. They claim they can't find a job and pay off student loans but they can find $100 a month for an iphone... seems a little out of whack to me. Life is tough, it takes work. They want money and jobs handed to them on a silver platter. Sadly parts of what they want and are looking for might be valid but the bandwagon movement has not helped at all. [ Reply | More ]
