I can't get over the comment about the snakes. To the person who grew up on the farm, was this a specific type of snake? AGH! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Yes, there are pictures, but it does debunk the myth that snakes travel in pairs. (I grew up on a farm also.) [ Reply | More ]

Here's the text: Another myth regarding snake behavior is that snakes travel in pairs, the survivor seeking revenge if one is killed. This myth is entirely false, snakes hardly ever travel in groups or pairs. Snakes do not have any social bonds and would feel in no way vengeful if one of its conspecifics were to be killed. One possible explanation for this myth may be that in a prime habitat situation, several snakes of the same species may be observed in a small area. Another possible explanation for the origin of this myth could be related to the typical reproductive behavior of snakes. During the mating season a male snake may closely follow a female snake much as a buck deer trails a doe during the rut. [ Reply | More ]

You are so nice to post the text:) That makes more sense. My brothers used to hunt Rattlesnakes when visiting my Grandma in Texas and I don't remember anything about pairs. [ Reply | More ]

YOur text above says nothing that contradicts me. I didn't say anything about snakes bonding but I know for a fact that there is almost always one around. Explain it any way you want. And since I grew up in tornado country, I'll still believe the Indians. [ Reply | More ]

No,sorry. Everything from harmless grass snakes to deadly rattlers. They travel together. And I hate them, too. but it was an interesting obscure fact. I also posted about the Indians camping by rivers during tonado season. I should have just stuck with that one and not freaked you out. But there aren't any snakes in the city or even in the burbs unless you live near a lot of timber. [ Reply | More ]

You are wrong about tornadoes not crossing water also. It's easy to find images online. This is from the Weather Channel: "Tornadoes can not cross water. False: Tornadoes that form on land can cross bodies of water such as rivers and lakes. Tornadoes, especially the more violent ones, can also travel up and down hillsides. Thinking that your location is protected by a river or ridge could be dangerously wrong." [ Reply | More ]

In my hometown, a friend of my mother's woke up to find a snake on her kitchen counter. She went to make coffee and a 6 foot snake was just cozied up on her granite counter top. It got into the house through a pipe or a crack in the foundation!!! [ Reply | More ]

They can get under the house and then come up through the duct work. I know somebody who found one in the bathroom. They can also come through the plumbing and out the toliet. Where have these people been living that they don't know this [ Reply | More ]
