Two nights now that dc 5.10 is concertedly trying to quit his thumb. He's been noticeably cranky as he settles down to sleep, but he has kept it out of his mouth on his own initiative! I'm very proud of him. His first baby tooth is loose, and he's trying to break himself of the habit before his permanent teeth come in so he doesn't need braces.
