Due in 3 weeks, and need some advise on private cord blood banks. I know that I'm very late in making this decision. But I think I want to do it and want to explore the costs. I live in NYC and am delivering at Cornell. Can anyone tell me good blood banks to check out, and what the approximate costs are? Thanks for your help!

OP: I was reading through some old posts and just checked viacord which some on here seemed to recommend. Its $2000 for initial storage of cord bolod, and over $3000 for initial storage of cord blood and tissue! And then $100-$300 a year after that! Whoa-- a lot more than i was thinking. I was reading it was around $1000 initial and $100 a year.

OP: Ok- I here that it may not have that many uses right now, but how do we know about the future? How do we know that in 50 years, we won't' hear that cord blood can be used to help with alzheimer's or other neurodegenerative disorder. Won't our kids be pissed that we didn't save their or their siblings blood when we could have?
