I've been a hiring manager for over 5 years, and this is a PSA. Ladies, when you go in for an interview, please remove your giant diamond rings. Please. Many people out there do not share your aesthetics or your cultural values, and the diamond carries a huge stigma for many many individuals. I work at a non-profit, and when I interview someone who is sporting a huge diamond, I immediately deduct points from that person. I talked about this with some of my colleagues today, and they feel the same way. It's just an unnecessary risk when you interview. Diamonds are offensive to many many people, so don't risk it, leave the ring at home. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

What about this princess cut? Is it offensive? Yes or no, and for what industry? http://hayakana-weddingdress.blogspot.com/2011/07/princess-cut-wedding-rings-princess-cut.html [ Reply | More ]

If you only wear your wedding band to the interview, but then you show up for work with your rock engagement ring, isn't that considered lying in the interview???? [ Reply | More ]

WHAT? Your marital status isn't a part of the interview process, neither is you jewelry box. If I wear hoops to an interview and then wear studs on my first day...is that lying? you're dumb. [ Reply | More ]

Why do you assume they are real diamonds? You're making a big leap. [ Reply | More ]

That's completely fine. I have been working in non-profits for years and this is the exact type of group of people I would be happy to avoid. Not hiring me would just be a favor. [ Reply | More ]

I've hired dozens of people at my nonprofit over the years and honestly couldn't tell you if any of them even WEAR diamonds or what their jewelry was. I can remember every detail of the interviews, their cover letters, and their previous experience, though. [ Reply | More ]

You suck! You are the reason that HR has a bad name. There are lot of us that actually hire on merit not what is on the persons finger or some other random excuse. Check your own issues at the door in the am and hire the person that is qualified not who fit your stupid profile. [ Reply | More ]

this is stupid! do what if she has a big diamond- GET OFF the soapbox- the diamond carrys a stigma for people who let it- what about those designer suits, which many could get materials or workman ship for overseas using CHILD LABOR- d ducting points for the items a person has on their person is DISCRIMINATION- If you are so concerned about the diamonds ladies wear- go after the mining companies and stores who sell them- NOT the person who has one- you should be fired for UNFAIR hiring practices. maybe you should leave your JUDGEMENTS at home [ Reply | More ]

Yikes, the author of this post is very superficial. She/he doesn't even know where the diamond ring originated and is already indignant about it? Diamonds mined in Canada are very much available on the U.S. market and no one has been killed in their mining. Honestly, you should judge someone by their jewelry because you are guilty of making a snap judgement. Good thing we don't know your name or where you work. Couldn't you be sued for discrimination? This amounts to little more than discrimination against married women...especially those who are affluent. What does "aesthetics or cultural values" have to do with being married? A ring of any size is a symbol of a wedded union. Diamonds never offend women (and many men!) If you can afford it, flaunt it has always been the cry of every woman I know, past and present, and of every man who buys them! Just because a woman's diamond is a big one does not mean she should be 'penalized' because you are either not married or your diamond ring is smaller! Give us all a break and get another line of work. Sounds like this 'hiring' manager is just jealous of what she does not have. Grow up. [ Reply | More ]

Your PSA should read, when you are interviewing for a job, research the company and what they stand for. Your company specifically deals with the effect of the diamond trade so someone interviewing for it, had they researched, wouldn't wear a large diamond to the interview. Whether a person chooses to wear a diamond or not to a job interview shouldn't matter. Question: If a person didn't wear their diamond to the interview, but wore it once they were hired. What would you do? [ Reply | More ]

"Diamonds are offensive to many many people..." Really? Name one (other than yourself)? You're an example of what's wrong with this country...forcing the majority to change the way they see the world based on the world views of the more vocal minority. [ Reply | More ]

The OP is a bitter jealous shrew who envies and thus despises people who have more than she does. Lets see --I think its immoral to permit illegal immigrants to stay in the control to get used as cheap labor while we pay their health care and for their childrens schooling via out tax dollars so if I see people I am interviewing eating fruit that I suspect is the product of a Mexican migrant picker's labor I take points of that person's application.
