Don't have a nanny, but it sounds like a good idea. Not all nannies are perfect and not all moms are model employers. [ Reply | More ]

I thought it was interesting that the article barely mentions off the books nannies...about 80% of people I know pay off the books. [ Reply | More ]

Agreed. Hopefully this bill will have the effect of making people feel like they can't do whatever they want with their nannies and, as one consequence, encourage more people to pay on the books. [ Reply | More ]

It doesn't say much but apparently it includes non legal nannies. the bill is supposed to encourage employers to go legal. [ Reply | More ]

I would love to go legal but the popularity of paying off the books has driven up wages way too high, imo. Whether it's morally right or wrong, the practice of paying off books is really well entrenched in nyc. [ Reply | More ]

LOLOL. Wouldn't it be nice if we could all say to our employers "sorry, but I don't pay tax or deductions"? Ridiculous that parents claim nannies won't "agree" to paying taxes. Maybe if more parents insisted that nannies be paid legally, there would be fewer nannies who would refuse to work unless allowed to defraud the IRS (and the rest of us who end up paying their share). Love it. The moron from Staten Island who is vetoing in needs to have a reality check. So sad that he doesn't understand the need to protect nanny's rights. [ Reply | More ]

I hope it also includes the requirement for nannies to give their employers 2 weeks notice, to save the other poster. [ Reply | More ]

The line between nannies as employees and as family members can be too easily blurred. This bill will help to clarify and protect the rights of domestic workers. [ Reply | More ]
