DS will be 15 month when #2 arrives. Torn over double stroller. Considering the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem, but hear it is heavy. Love my Maclaren and am thinking I will get much more use out of a Twin Triumph/Quest once #2 is big enough to go into the Mac. Ladies - I need your help. I don't want to buy a $200 stroller for only a few months!

ITA, I was just wondering if I should consider the Maclaren Twin Triumph right from the start when #2 arrives (Maclaren website lists the twin triumph appropriate for 0+ months) or just suck it up, get the Contours Tandem for that period before the youngest can go into a Mac.

No problem with a Mac - I just wasn't sure about using it for a NB

if the seat lies flat, it's fine. if you are in the city, it might be easier to use a carrier (ergo, beko and the like) with the newborn and just push single stroller w toddler. what about phil & ted's?

granted my dc are now school aged, but they are 18 months apart and I used a MacLaren double stroller from the time my 2nd was nb. Don't know the model, this was 8 years ago, but that thing rocked!!! However, those Mountain Buggy double strollers look really easy to push. I was a littlle nutty and folded up my stroller every day, so the double MacLaren worked for me, I also took the subway with the two and I could carry it up the stairs. I used the double until my older one was almost 4.

Their frame is just too light. They are sooooo hard to push on city streets. You really need something with big wheels, like a mountain buggy. If you are a suburbanite and will only use the stroller at the mall, a mac MIGHT work. We use it at our second home, but it didn't cut it for the city.

They don't handle children of different weights very well.

Agreed! I hated mine! Hard to push, gave up when the baby was 10 mos and got a baby jogger city mini.

you will need a double stroller for about 1.5 years. My only recommendation is to make sure the stroller is not heavy. Also, Maclarens aren't that smooth on city streets(if in nyc) so may not be the best idea.

Kolcraft contours is HUGE and prob. more stroller than you need. But you will need a double. Look for a used one. I have a Jane Powertwin that is great for city living. If you are in the burbs, look for a used Double Bob, or Baby Jogger city series.

We live in the burbs. I have a double schwinn that will serve as our neighborhood/outdoor walking device. It does not accept an infant carseat so it won't be able to be used until the youngest is a bit older and has good head control and can sit up in it (guessing around 6 months). Plus it is way too big to consider taking it to dr's appts and other indoor places. That's why I am looking for something more nimble to get in and out of the car, and to use it more indoor. My concern was around sticking a NB into a Mac even with the seats fully reclined. Hence the Contours which can accept a carrier or fully reclined seat (pram) style.

The Powertwin is a tandem double, with air tires. Easy to maneuver AND fit through doorways.

It really depends on how big #2 is and your stamina for carrying DB. Around age 2 is when my DC was forced to walk a lot more. We had only a single maclaren and my DCs are 2 years apart.

I have the new Baby Jogger City Select and I love it but it is like all doubles -- big. I mean, sometimes I think I need a Jake Brake for it.

Baby Jogger City Mini Double. Light, easy to fold, easy to push with one hand, it reclines nearly flat so you can use it right away with #2 or buy the optional carseat adapter. I LOVE mine.

Kolcraft contours was a pita. I used it once with my nephews and it was HUGE. It was a struggle to fit in the trunk of my SUV. I really liked my old Graco Duoglider that I had about 4 years ago. It was inexpensive, lightweight (for a double), easy to fold, easy to maneuver, lots of storage, and took an infant carseat.

OP: So I went and saw the Kolcraft Contours Options Tandem today in a store...all I can say is I felt as if it were a tractor trailer. It felt humongous and once I started re-configuring the seats per the website demo, I quickly noticed some configurations simply don't work. For instance you can't do the seats back to back and expect to recline either one! So both babies have to be willing to sit fully upright. Furthermore, you can't fully extend the one closest to handlebar without doing the same to the front most seat. Despite it's long length, the seats felt like they were on top of one another!

Seriously, I'm a twin mom, and the only tandem double you want is the Jane Powertwin. If you are going side-by-side get a Mountain buggy, Bob, Valco, or Baby Jogger City mini, or City regular. Look on Craigslist for a deal.
