WHAT is Curriculum night? Is this something every school should have? My school is having a preK/K orientation next week but that sounds different (less informative) than Curriculum Night! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

it is "open house," where you meet all the teachers and sometimes go through the subjects/classes that dc have. orientation could be similar, but more general, as you suggest. [ Reply | More ]

Curriculum night is where you get specifics regarding what your dc will actually be learning in school that year. [ Reply | More ]

our school doesn't do it, they have a curriculum breakfast for each grade each year. i doubt it is any more informative than your orientation. [ Reply | More ]

our school's curriculum night has been very detailed in the past -- it really sets expecations for the year. also gives the parents a chance to spend time with the teacher. at our school's curriculum night, class parents are elected and usually, some class funds are collected. [ Reply | More ]

Curriculum Night is a term often used in Public Schools. If your schoo is having a combined prek/k meeting, I suspect it is a private school. Curriculum night is where the teacher discusses what she will be teacing for the year - the specials - some class rules and routines. All the parents come and it is done in group fahion. i think orientation is meant to answer general questions about the school and its policies. curriculum night goes over dcs' class schedule and what they'll be learning throughout the year. [ Reply | More ]
