[-]I'm looking for stylish and comfortable heels - any specific brands you'd suggest?
5 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]Donald Pliner is always comfortable and reasonably priced. I also find Prada and Stuart Weitzman comfortable, but pricey. Check out www.berenshoes.com for lots of higher-end comfortable shoes.

Well, since you asked -- the idea behind Rose and Fern is to honor deceased relatives -- so that's why Rose or Fern. The other names you referred to may or may not be favorable names but they have no meaning or association. I realize they are "old lady" names but the grandmothers were of a different era! Besides, some of the "old lady" names like Ava, Clara, and Ella are coming back. Some more than others.

[-]Hey there, new to UB. I was just wondering how other young couples are taking care of their DC(s) without much family support. I find it very difficult to have more than 1 kid if both parents are working and having to pay for daycare. Luckily we found a great sahm that charges about $185/wk. If it were a child care center we'd be sponsored by top ramen because thats all we would eat. Thats pretty much the only way right? Either that or one of stays at home and half of our income is gone.

A huge chunk of your income can & will go to childcare, babysitters, pre-school, private school, piano lessons, soccer clubs, summer camps, vacations, birthday parties, shoes 2-3 X per year, massive amount of food for athletic teen boys, college savings. You're workin' for them baby!

[-]Hi. We are moving to San Francisco and I am looking for advice on SF independent schools. My kids are still in pre-K/K so will have to apply to ongoing right when we there this fall. What is viewed as the most rigorous academically. And does anyone know which schools would offer Latin in the upper grades (e.g., 6th to 8th grade). We'd be open to move to Marin, as well. TIA

[-]My mom worked her butt off to give me the best education she could, but never spent time with me. As much as I swore I would not do the same to my dc, history is repeating itself. UGH.
6 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]how old is your dc? it's not too late for you to change your lifestyle. you don't have to repeat the past.

so you're thinking you don't want to be the absentee mom that you had. you are ahead of the game already by just knowing what you don't want to be. do quality things with dd and make her your top priority and it will work out. do you have the option to go PT so you can have more time in your life to be with your family? this is what worked for me. good luck.
[ Reply | Options ]np: or even full time, but with a less demanding job? if you have a job like my mom's was, maybe you are pulling all nighters to make deadlines and working on weekends. there are many full time jobs that don't require this kind of commitment. so if you have one of those crazy jobs, maybe you could switch to a less demanding one that gives you more time to spend with your children?

what do you mean by spending time? i think sometimes people have these fancified ideas of what parents do with their kids. otoh, there are plenty of parents who really don't have time for their kids.
