[-]TTC baby #2. Conceived DS #1 w/clomid/IUI. Am now 37. RE keeps saying all is fine, numbers are fine, DH has super sperm. However, now have had 2 failed clomid/IUIs. exhausted, depressed, and emotional. would you do another IUI and if yes, another with clomid or move on to injectibles? we can't start IVF until Jan. what would you do?
16 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]bc the office goes on a hiatus for lab maintenance for a few wks in Dec and then i am away for the holidays to see family, a vacation which was booked almost a year ago, when i had no idea i would be in this awful place. curious, why do you say clomid is CP? i'm also TERRIFIED of doing the injections. i don't know if i can really do this.
[ Reply | Options ]A lot of people say that it messes with your body so much that it causes problems, not solves them . But if you are not going to do IVF until Jan you may as well give it another go or two, but try something different, mix it up a bit. The injections are seriously not a big deal. Can you get dh to do them? Good Luck
[ Reply | Options ]thank you for the advice. i just watched the video for doing the injections and am having anxiety. i can't even watch when the do the blood draws or the ovidrul. i have no idea how i will do this myself, and as much as i love DH, i can't see him doing this either. the clomid did make me feel like crap. but i don't know if its my emotions and anxiety that are causing me to question it. the doc said that typical is 3 cycles of clomid, but he said i could move to injectibles too. im so confused and scared.
[ Reply | Options ]Get dh to do it. You are doing enough, and you won't even feel it. And your doctor knows your situation the best, so do what he says, imo, but if he says injectables are worth a go next cycle, suck it up, and go for it.....
[ Reply | Options ]not a question of "suck it up." i have serious genuine anxiety and fear about needles. i'm still amazed i ever had a baby and made it through childbirth at all. how do you get the strength to stick it in? it's not about whether it hurts, it the anxiety of knowing that something is piercing your skin. i am truly truly scared.
[ Reply | Options ]np: I know someone who hired a nurse to come and give the shots. It was a little expensive but not outrageous as it only took a minute and she found someone who lived nearby. Try this and maybe that will make you relax, even if it costs a few hundred dollars extra.
[ Reply | Options ]thanks for the suggestion. im now trying to think of anyone i know who could do it for me.
[ Reply | Options ]np, and i absolutely 100% understand your needle fear. i was TERRIFIED. got my sister to come do it, and was absolutely in a panic the first time she did it. next time it was bad but not as bad, and gradually got better and better. it can be scary and if you really don't feel comfortable doing it, you shouldn't put yourself through that.

[-]Second dd is showing signs of fussiness/colickyness at 12 days, much like her big sister. I forget, however, at what age it is appropriate and effective to use the swing. I tried this morning, but dd just continued to cry, so I figure I need a little more time. Does anyone remember? Bouncy seat doesn't work but the Ergo does, so I am constantly wearing this little one and would love a break. Thanks in advance for your help!
6 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]-
(OP) Oh I have no moral problem with the swing but not sure at what age it might be more effective? Does dd need to be older than 12 days? For our first, we just didn't happen to have a swing until dd was closer to 5 weeks and it was like sweet, sweet magic. Hoping this child doesn't refuse the swing because it was a godsend for the first!
[ Reply | Options ]
I had the papasan swing which was the greatest swing ever designed (with twirling butteries and lights plus the side to side or front to back swing option) and it was the only way to get anything done with dd and the only thing she would nap in (with colic) as well.

[-]help! ive been staying at home w dd for 7 months (since she was born) and am going back to work 4 days a week in 2 weeks. im totally stressing about the separation and what i will be missing while im away at work...financially though, i feel i must at least give work a chance for my family. 9-5 4 days a week is the most part time my job will allow and they wont allow any work from home. for those out there that went back to work and dreaded it -- did the transition turn out to be easier than you anticipated? worse? anyone regret going back to work, or vice versa? just feeling like i could use a little encouragement right now...
1 reply [ Reply | Watch | Options ]I felt the same way- couldn't get it together to even THINK about childcare, felt terrified at leaving db. But I also realized that I was not a 'healthy' SAHM during my maternity leave- I had trouble getting out, watched bad tv shows at naptime, ate poorly... I need outside structure to help me organize me life! Going back to work helped me get myself back together and, in some ways, the time I spent with DC was better quality. Also work 4/5 days.

6 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]I transferred one frozen blast two weeks ago with RMA and learned Friday it was a no go. The fresh cycle we'd done (our last out of five) retrieved multiple eggs, many fertilized and so on, but following PGD, none were chromosomally okay. So we had to go with the one blast from last year. Didn't work. But I was hopeful, and that is really all you can be too! I wish you the very best and am sprinkling virtual baby dust your way! Now, on to donor egg for us...I think.
[ Reply | Options ]i'm sorry. gl with the donor eggs! have you been happy with RMA? this is my second cycle there. first was 2 years ago and geve me DD. this time around i am not feeling as though i am getting as much personal attention as i was. am starting to think that if this cycle doesnt work, i may switch to cornell. or i could just be producing crappy embryos and it has nothing to do with them....
[ Reply | Options ]Oh boy, have I been where you are. Was even considering the same switch - to Cornell. But at the end of the day, they know me, we have history and a son from them, and I really do love Dr. Copperman. He seems to genuinely care and tries to ease the pain a bit. I also don't think it has a damn thing to do with them. It is my screwed up biology (age, translocations). We'll probably do donor egg through them, though I'm not certain we won't make the switch to Cornell.

[-]do all wives of stay-at-home husbands, even those who are great with the dc, end up resenting them? i hate myself for even posting this query but i also sense that, no matter how much we love our DHs, we can't help but feel that the work day doesn't end when we get home...yet he gets to tune out since he's been 'working' all day with the dc...and?
14 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]while you never really know what it's like behind someone's closed doors, I know a couple where she's the breadwinner and he's a stay-at-home father. It appears that it really works for them. She hated being at home, and he was fine giving up his career. From the outside, she really appreciates all that he does -- and is relieved she doesn't have to do the school fundraising, halloween cookies....
[ Reply | Options ]It's kind of a double standard. Woman who stay home and expected to clean, take care of db, do laundry, and make dinner. A lot of times when dh comes home from work they sit in front of the TV or get on the computer to 'relax' making our job a 12 hour job with no breaks. Yet when a man stays home he probably doesn't clean or do laundry, just takes care of baby. Then when his wife gets home he passes the kid off to her so he can 'relax'. I think I would end up resenting him if he didn't do the same things that would be expected of me.
[ Reply | Options ]Truthfully, I am a little resentful of DH, who is a SAHD - but this is not what we had planned (and I assume that that's part of what makes it "hard" for me). He was laid off while I was on maternity leave and we didn't panic, we figured that he'd (easily) find something else - but he didn't. (We're fortunate enough to have some family $ - but not enough to live on forever...which is why I eventually went back to work instead.) He is a fantastic dad - and he's enjoying this new role, but he's not great at the household stuff (and never has been). He does cook, though - which I appreicate. :)
[ Reply | Options ]I don't really feel resentful. DH is great with DC, and he cooks, cleans, does laundry, etc. Things may not be as "tidy" as I'd ideally like them to be, but the big stuff does get done, so it's hard to complain. I do take over with DC when I get home (bath, bedtime, etc.), but mostly because I want that time with them. However, I do basically zero housework during the week. Compared to how things were during the years that we both worked (our oldest was 5 when DH stopped working) this is much, much, much better - less stressful for both of us, so much better for DC.
[ Reply | Options ]WOHD here: if anything, when i get home my wife gets a break & i deal w/ the kids...maybe she's cooking dinner or something while i'm getting them out of the tub...one thing is for sure, i am not tuning out b/c i was working all day...i spend enough time with my kids to know that i've got the easier job--at least for now )ages 3 & 5)...those of you who resent their husbands need to address this issue directly & get rid of the resentment
[ Reply | Options ]And how do you suggest that happens? My DH actually works PT, but he doesn't do any of the cleaning, laundry etc. He usually pushes db off on MIL. So I work FT, do all the cleaning and laundry, and have db the second I get home from work. I would LOVE to be a sahm, but DH refuses to even work FT so we could at least maybe afford a cleaning lady, so I could enjoy a little more time with db.
[ Reply | Options ]sounds like you're way behind the 8-ball and should have addressed these issues before marriage/kids. This guy couldn't have possibly led you to believe before you married him that he was responsible and committed to sharing household duties. I can't stand whining from people who knew or should have known exactly what they were getting with their chosen partner.
[ Reply | Options ]normally i'd suggest just telling him what he needs to do to lighten your load & share the burden...but it sounds like he may already know that & just not care--which is different than OP's situation...in your case i'd lay down the law about what is acceptable & what is not acceptable in a marriage/partnership...you sound pretty pissed off--are you even happy in the marriage aside from this issue?

[-]I am really REALLY mad about the fact that some of the Big Wall Street firms (ie: Goldman, Citi) and the NYSE comandeered H1N1 vaccinations before many, many OBs and Peds in NYC. Some of the firms got more vaccine than even the hospitals have received. I am 30 weeks pg with asthma and I have a 21 month old son. We are going to drive 1.5 hours today (one way) for the *glimmer* of a hope to get the vaccine (unfortunately it will not be thimerosol free but I really don't know what my options are at this point). I feel like not only has Wall Street messed up our world economy, now they are effectively saying "our lives are potentially more important than yours or that of your children." I would LOVE to see some moms from this board organiz...
101 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]I just watched the coverage about this on the Today show. The problem is that GS, Citi, etc. probably played by the rules and just applied for a share of the vaccine and NYS gave them a share. The problem is that Wall Street has such a bad reputation that the blame goes to them and not the State that actually allowed it. The right thing for Wall Street would have been to donate their share to a local hospital and ask their employees to stand in line with all the other people that don't work for them.
[ Reply | Options ]I really don't understand people's outrage. These companies applied for the vaccines like any other entity, paid for it, and got it. If you want medicine to be completely govt. run then get behind your president and change the health care policy. But as it stands these firms have not done anything wrong, and are simply protecting their workers which I commend them for.
[ Reply | Options ]How do you explain that Lenox Hill Hospital got the exact same number of vaccines as Goldman Sachs did? I agree this is a problem with how the state is distributing the vaccines and it's always been like this that companies with medical offices can apply for a share. Nobody did anything legally wrong but there are ethical implications. Let's not talk about image.
[ Reply | Options ]
Ordinary people work for these firms. You do understand that, right? PG women, people with small children, and people with health problems just like you. Are you saying you think their lives are less important because of who they work for?
[ Reply | Options ]No, I think people are saying that the high risk groups are not over represented at GS - (ie no children, pregnant women make up a very small percentage of their work force) and the vax were not ONLY given to pregnant women or asthma suffers. The right, moral thing to do - when GS/Citi saw the shortage would have been to donate theirs to peds/hospital in order to vax the AT RISK groups and allow their non at risk employees to wait. But right and moral have a hard time finding a place in Wall Street Firms.
[ Reply | Options ]morgan stanley got 1000 shots -they are donating them back. I'm pretty sure goldman got more than 200 shots if MS got 1000
[ Reply | Options ]
If you don't like the rules, complain to the government. These firms played by the rules and got the vaccines, you can't blame them for that.
[ Reply | Options ]I think this is a big part of what is wrong with society today. Yes, you can blame them. There is and always has been the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. We should not excuse questionable behavoir, by saying well... they did follow the rules. We need individual and collective moral people. As moms, are we trying our best to teach childrent to get whatever they can as long as they find a loophole - or are we teaching them to be kind, thoughtful, considerate and sometimes sacriface for someone else?
[ Reply | Options ]So if your pediatrician got his supply and can give it to you, but the local hospital needs it, you would donate it? Come on.
[ Reply | Options ]
I actually think there is going to be a big backlash. I almost think these guys are going to need armed guards because some crazy is going to take a gun and shoot them. It just keeps getting worse. The favoritism, the bonuses, now the flu vaccine. Let the bail me out. Obama is in Goldman's pocket and they do think they are better than the great unwashed.
[ Reply | Options ]Morgan Stanley disingenuously "donated" their ONE THOUSAND vaccines to area hospitals. There is a vulgar irony to this. And for those defending these cos., how many pregnant women, young children, etc. really high risk people? My dr had the shot and my ped still doesn't so my 1 yr old is still waiting while mr/ms muckity muck doesn't? hmmm.
[ Reply | Options ]this is absurd. how does one disingenuously donate anything? Back when these were ordered nobody knew there was going to be a big delay in the production of the vaccine. The company thought it was getting its fair allotment and then when it was clear there was a shortage they donated them back. You're showing your colors as a bitter hater, which just voids your "opinion" since it's irrational.
[ Reply | Options ]
The problem is that there's a shortage - full stop. The school district next door to us has the vaccine, ours doesn't. Yet I'm not trying to assemble an angry mob against them.
[ Reply | Options ]But its a school, not an IB largely populated by healthy middle age men and women not "high risk" categories. So you can remove your halo now.
[ Reply | Options ]-
^^^available for everyone that is high-risk. That's the heart of the issue, and it's not Wall Street's fault. Someone with your profile that happened to work for Goldman Sachs would be just as "worthy" of a vaccine as you are.
[ Reply | Options ]np: then why are people at GS who are not in the high risk group being given the vaccine. that's completely irresponsible.
[ Reply | Options ]Yes, that would be irresponsible if true (which I'm not sure it is - I read that only high-risk employees were being vaccinated). But that's not the OP's issue - she's pissed they even got the vaccine in the first place, regardless of how they're using it. Like if the principal of my neighboring school took all her vaccines home and passed them out to friends and family, that would be irresponsible also.
[ Reply | Options ]If you are at GS, you need to be in a high-risk group. A friend of mine is pg and she had to stand in line with others and be screened by a nurse before being alowed to get the shot. When they hand out the regular seasonal flu-shot it takes about 30 seconds to go in, read the pamphlet and get the shot.

As another mother waiting for the vaccine for her 3 young children, I understand the frustration but let's direct it where to the agency that is mishandling this situation. The NY State Health Department and the NY City Health Department are responsible for distributing the vaccine to facilities and agencies that have applied for them. It is NYCHD's responsibility to say who is a priority group and they have been (re)instructed by the CDC to insure that health care workers, pregnant women, kids etc are vaccinated first. I can't stand GS or Citi either but it's not their fault that they've been given the vaccine in lieu of higher priority groups. Picketing Wall St is pointless... if you have a beef, take it to State Health Commissioner R...
[ Reply | Options ]I agree with you, but maybe I'll start a new post: Why doesn't GS get their sh*t together and work on their public image? For a "successful" firm, they seem clueless.
[ Reply | Options ]Which is an entirely different question than: How dare GS go thorough proper channels to obtain 200 flu shots for their high risk employees?
[ Reply | Options ]yes, but they should have been smarter to manage this information better. It's common sense. A PR person would do them a world of good. I can think of a thousand ways that they could have put this info out there in a better manner. They don't seem to realize they have a PR problem.

OP here: I am getting ready to leave for the long car ride now. I am glad for the debate that this has generated. I would be happy to know that the vaccines that went to GS, NYSE, etc. truly went to those at high-risk (of course, their employees have the opportunity to get to doctors like we do, so why didn't their doctors get the doses)? Anyway, if high-risk ppl got it, great. But what I got from the interview with the head of the health dept in NY was him throwing up his hands and saying, basically, "It's up to the companies to decide who's high risk." Let me guess... the guy at the top who has high BP? C'mon... Anyway, regardless of how you stand on this issue, please wish me luck that we can get the shot -- we are basically trav...
[ Reply | Options ]Please, if you are THAT worried, quarantine yourself and your db until flu season is over. There isn't enough vaccine to go around, period, so even if GS and MS didn't get any that still doesn't mean it would make your plight ANY different. And for God's sake, stop watching the news and reading this board. Your getting yourself way too worked up over this.

You can't listen to the sensationalist media's bent on this and trust it. They are trying to get people stirred up, and it is working. GS got 200 vaccines and are distributing them to their own high-risk employees, such as people with asthma and elderly people. Every GS exec is not getting the vaccine. And the GS workers who are getting the vaccine through work are as deserving of it as any other non GS-employed at-risk person.
[ Reply | Options ]I'm 30 weeks pregnant and have been searching for the H1N1 shot. My ob @ Columbia Pres can't get it. I've been calling everywhere. After hearing about Goldman I decided to call them to see if I could 'buy' a shot. At first they said - no, sorry, none left. I then told them I was an investor and the guy told me to hold on as he was transferring me to their nurse. The nurse said they used all their shots the same day they received them. I'm still frustrated but I find it more annoying that I was given the brush off until I claimed to be an investor.. then they were happy to try to help.

OP: I used to live on the 32nd floor of another bldg and seem to recall having similar issues with dirty windows and carpets. I think that dirt and soot are just a byproduct of living in NYC. But DH seems to think that the problem is specific to this apt, given its proximity to a busy street. So I was wondering whether there's a professional who could help us evaluate whether the air quality is particulary bad in THIS apt.

I live in CA and my husband works on hospital expansions. I remember that he once had to hire a guy to come in to an existing hospital and check for mold. The "expert" walked in, sniffed the air, and declared mold. That is how they check I guess. Personally, I think the whole mold issue has been blown way out of proportion. I doubt that "toxic mold" is really so toxic. Mold is everywhere. We all would have died by now. Especially in these piece of crap poorly insulated homes in CA. Flame away.
[ Reply | Options ]Black dirt could be from diesel exhaust. Its the outside of the windows that get dirty, right? Does dirt accumulately INSIDE? If yes, I would be concerned as "particulate matter" is very likely a health problem. If not, do you smell exhaust inside? If negative on both counts, then there is no great reason to think that you have an issue.
[ Reply | Options ]It all depends on the quality of your windows and how tightly sealed they are. If the seals are not tight then of course soot and dirt will get in, all the more so since you are on the ground floor and not higher up. One way to fix this would be to install another set of windows (if your sills are deep enough). We did this and it cuts out almost all the noise and pollution.
