Please advise. Possible relocation from downtown NYC. Looking to spend 1 to 2.5 M for a home in Palm Beach County. Prefer an upscale area with unique, historic (restored) single family homes versus condos or brand new construction Mc Mansions. Looking for good schools, restaurants, shopping, beach club. Love Palm Beach but worry it is too old for young families? Also, any info on St. Andrews or Pine Crest or other private school in the area?

[-]Had an argument with DH over this, would you take your family to Hooters? Does DH go to Hooters?
13 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]-
no, he doesn't go. he might if everyone from work went for lunch or something, but he would never suggest it or want to go there of his own volition! and no, definitely wouldn't take my family there. in high school i know a couple of girls who worked there. they kind of had a hard time telling people what they did (similar to being a stripper), and there were always tons of sleazy guys. definitely not something i would want my family to be around!
[ Reply | Options ]My dad got restaurant vouchers from work for whatever reason, and took my mom out to dinner, to a place they had never been. It turned out to be a Hooters-knock-off type bar, where the servers were girls in really tiny outfits and horrible high heels! My poor conservative mom felt so bad for them, having to work all night in those shoes and with all the drunk guys acting like fools. But she left a BIG tip!
[ Reply | Options ]Wasn't this exact question just posted yesterday and discussed in detail? Am i imaginging things?
[ Reply | Options ]-
No but only because the menu isn't good. No problem with waitresses in short shorts...even with the family. If we were on vacation in florida and it was around and nothing else was, I would be fine going in and getting the kids chicken nuggets. Not sleazy if that is your concern.

We'd like to have a conversation with moms who use, and moms who don't use, these types fo products. The research will be on-line, in a discussion forum some time the week of December 1st. Would there be something that made it worth your while ? If I had mentioned that there if partipating entered you to win a 100-200 Amazon gift card, would that make it more motivating ?
[ Reply | Options ]-
Well, that would be the case. We are looking to recruit 12-24 people and at the end of the on-line study, we would do a raffle and either two people will get a 100 gift card or one person would get a 200 gift card. If you find that interesting, you can e-mail at greenresearch12@yahoo.com and I will send you the survey to see if you qualify !

Yikes, should've proofread ... should read 'if you had participated you would've been entered to win a 100-200 Amazon gift card {chances of winning 1 in 24). Would that've helped ?

[-]oops! previous poster about juice fasts here. sent it too early.. so anyways, who has done juice fasts? Im currently doing one. Have done it before. Just need to reboot my system and clean up. Any good recipes for good combos? Also, how long have you done it for? would appreciate and experiences and advice!
3 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]Yes, I've done many-over many years. I usually prep my system by paring out pastas, rich protein/fat combos and making meals smaller and more frequent. Don't take a juice fast for too many days if your schedule is too demanding or hectic. 3 day veg juice fasts are a great reboot. Be sure to balance the more sugary produce-not too heavy on the beets, carrots. I personally don't mix fruits and veg, so my recipes are 'boring', but I do a lot of Carrot,Kale,Garlic,Arugula,Spinach, some beet, plenty of ginger, green, red, yellow pepper, chard, cress, and celery(for water content). After the fast, I keep to mainly raw foods for a couple of days, then on to raw up till noon and cooked food midday-for a week.Dinner is usually a full salad w/tofu, legumes and ...

[-]I got a gym membership in May of this year. They had a free introductory 30 min session with a trainer. The trainer advised me to get personal training...I said my employer had a job freeze right now so i could not commit since I didn't know about the situation in the fall. He ASSURED me that I could cancel at any time, by telling him and not scheduling more sessions. My job didn't get renewed, I told the trainer, and I didn't see any more debits. Now it's November, and all of a sudden, I have $600 in overdraft fees in my bank account!! I literally do not have a single dollar of income!! And the thing is, I clearly cancelled my account! I even emailed their billing department and also mailed a letter. No response to either. I am so scared r...
8 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]I am so scared right now. I don't want debt collectors coming after me and ruining my credit. I went to the gym again today but they told me to contact corporate. But corporate is ignoring me! My bank is going to start charging $7/day in overdraft in add'n to the $600 the gym has charged starting next week. it is seriously making me sick, there is no way i can pay back $600 even if i want to. is there any loophole i can use to get out of this? obviously i can't afford a lawyer.
[ Reply | Options ]go to the FTC's website. there are instructions there on what to do if you have been the victim of fraud, which is what this is. send them a certified letter saying that they are in violation of the law and both NYS and federal debt collection practices, that the debt is in dispute and that you intend to pursue any and all legal remedies you have against them, including seeking punitive damages. there is wording right on the website. its meant for id fraud, but would work in this instance too. unfortunately, i have btdt, but i am a lawyer so i knew what to do. it took about 6 months but i finally got it resolved.
[ Reply | Options ]^and demand that the funds be returned immediately. Also, contact your bank and let the bank know that the gym fraudulently debited your card. if you have to, go to you local police precinct and file a criminal complaint against the gym and the gym manager. that will get their attention. you can take the criminal complaint to the bank and they have to restore the funds.

Once I had a problem with a jewelery store that tried to scam me (charge me for work that they never did). I got the better business bureau to investigate--and the threat of having a record out there got them to cancel the charge on my CC. Also, if the charge is on your CC then you can call them to dispute the charges (and should do this right away). This is actually a lot easier to do than trying to work through the BBB. Finally, let them know you will be reviewing them everywhere on-line, to tell the world exactly how they handle this. They should know they won't get away with it!
[ Reply | Options ]np The BBB is a TOTAL scam. They collect dues from businesses and regularly ignore serious complaints. I know because I (and many others) made a complaint about a certain contractor--who still has an A+ rating and complaints frozen at 7 (all dealt with--which I KNOW for a fact is bullshit).

[-]My teenage daughter is 18 and so is her boyfriend. He lives in NY with his grandmother and aunt(their apt). The mother during the week lives in NJ with her sister, and her sister's boyfriend. Her job is located in NJ. On the weekends she is with her son. For quite a few weeks the grandmother and aunt have not been speaking to him for whatever reason. My daughter has been saying she needs to be there for him and help him. He's been there for her now it's his turn. I feel anyday she will be approaching me for him to come stay with us. I do not want this for many obvious reasons. Besides telling her my reasons, what is the best way to approach this?
24 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]-
My house, my rules. I will not accept you and your boyfriend living with me. End of discussion.
[ Reply | Options ]-
An easier way to approach this without having a big fight with my daughter. He has a mother who has been calling my daughter and getting her involved. Which yes I know she is, but I really don't think the mother should be calling my daughter.
[ Reply | Options ]Sounds like an episode of "Cops" waiting to happen... One question: since he's 18 could he ever end up with his own place while Mom's away and then you're stuck with the opposite scenario-- her at HIS place? This is tough I'd ask a professional.
[ Reply | Options ]No! He has no money and he is looking for a part time job while he is in school.
[ Reply | Options ]i would contact the aunt and grandmother on the down low and try to find out why they are not talking to him. something is definitely amiss here and although your daughter is 18 she still lives at home as a concerned parent you need to know what is up with this kid. his living arrangement alone is less than conventional and raises some red flags. where is the father? and more importantly what did he do that was so awful his aunt and grandmother are not speaking to him and your daughter is signaling that she wants him to live with you? smells fishy to me.
[ Reply | Options ]From what my daughter tells me. Her boyfriend went to register for school and his mother went with him. She was suppose to take the grandmother and aunt somewhere and now could not. Maybe they feel that she owes them because her son is living with them. The parents are divorced and the father lives upstate. I do feel there is more to the story but this is all my daughter has told me.
[ Reply | Options ]
since she hasn't explicitly asked yet because it hasn't gotten to that point, drop her subtle hints now (before she asks) that this is not going to happen.
[ Reply | Options ]
Why can't you tell her your reasons? She is 18 - you can talk to her. Hopefully, she is bright enough to know that at the heart of it, this is really not a great idea. Most importantly, I wouldn't worry about it - she may not even bring it up.
[ Reply | Options ]you need to call the grandmother and aunt on the down low. they will understand and as long as you don't divulge any controversial info. to them they will keep it to themselves. to be honest don't you think they are wondering who you are and what's going on at your place?
[ Reply | Options ]To add to this. I adopted her and her brother. They were with their biological parents till they were 4 and 6. They were in fostercare for 4 years. This says alot.

They are 18 years old. I am in no way responsible for him. He has a mother and a father. He is their child, their responsibility! They have not kicked him out. My daughter just doesn't like the situation he is in.
[ Reply | Options ]i agree with you. also, you can't let your daughter just treat your home like a hotel-it has rules. if your daughter asks for him to move in, just say that his own family doesn't want to talk to him, so why would i, who have no relation to him, want to? you need to be firm, because it seems like you're going to let ur daughter and her bf walk all over you.
[ Reply | Options ]
Your daughter should learn how to size up a potential mate. Someone with personal problems who might start to leech off her and her family is something she should develop a radar for.
