[-]I can not understand why it is ok to prep for Olsat, SAT, etc... but not for the ERB? Why is it that these DOA's find it "unethical?" (as suggested by the NYT article) I really don't get this double standard. Can someone please explain to me - what am I missing?
12 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]The article was saying that the SCHOOLS have different views about testing prep. Public schools don't have a formal position on prepping and have not sad anything about it even though they know it happens but private schools have a formal position which is that they look out for it and find it unethical.

moving to westchester. How to find a babysitter/housekeeper? My current one takes care of 3 dcs and cleans, does laundry 2x week. I know she is Mary Poppins and lightning does not strike twice (generally). But how do I find someone like that? What do you pay per hour, per week, or live in? Please help, thanks!

[-]Pg with #2, due soon, on track to gain 25 pounds this time (gained 20 so far with 5 wks to go). With #1 I gained 35 lbs and took me 1 yr to lose all the weight (though I never exercised that hard, just walking w/stroller.) If I actually work out this time, how long will it take to lose it?

[-]Where would be a great place to go skiing with a 6-year old where I can rent a room with a kitchen and not need a car to get to the slopes? Any ideas? TIA.
4 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]Any ski resort will probably have ski-in-ski-out condos or commuter buses to and from local hotels. We like Okemo in Vermont personally.
[ Reply | Options ]Stein Erickson Lodge at Deer Valley if you can spend $ (they have small suites with kitchens). You will not need a car at all (they have a hotel shuttle into park city). It's actually not terribly expensive, depending on when you go (especially considering that flights into Salt Lake City are cheap). I think we paid about $350/night for a junior suite last year with a full kitchen towards the end of the season. Was like a studio apartment, and would have been perfect for two adults and a child.

[-]What are the best air filters? My neighbor downstairs smokes and it smells like smoke in the baby's room.
3 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]Check out the Air-O-Swiss air washer. It also doubles as a moderate humidifier as well. I believe you can add non-toxic air freshener tablets to it as well, but not certain because I went with the straight up humidifier (odor is not an issue for us, but the air is very dry). Great brand, though.
[ Reply | Options ]FYI: Air filters do absolutely nothing to remove any of the toxins/carcinogens associated w/2nd hand smoke. Don't know if they work for smells, but that's not the biggest concern. It's a huge problem (we're going through this too), but stopping the smoke (or piling on the insulation, which may not work) is the way to address it. Lots of info on Google...

but no abuse or cheating. We've been together almost 20 yrs, married for 15. We just don't get along at all, fight and get on each other's nerves constantly, he gets mad about everything I say and do, we've been to counseling twice, and I just don't know what to do at this point. I don't want to settle for this life, but I would feel terrible about my dd, so I don't know what to do.

[-]how much breastmilk should I leave with my 5mo db for 24 hours?
4 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]someone can always take more out of the freezer if necessary, but I would overestimate what you think he eats. It's okay if some of it has to be tossed. You don't want to worry about this while you are gone
[ Reply | Options ]I am dropping db with the ILs so I need to decide in advance.... I feel like I usually over estimate and end up tossing so much and since I ebf, I pump only once a day, so it takes me 2 days to make one bottle and it just kills me to see it get tossed.... but I would be too worried not to leave enough... maybe I will bring 40oz.. but is that way too much?
