What constitutes a "bad parent interview"? I can't imagine how that can happen. We are adults, and we will be on our best behavior in such a situation. Or is it as simple as not looking the part?

    • I have heard a bad one means DH got strange or defensive. It can also occur when their is gross name dropping.

        • Equally unpleasant are the school people telling you about famous parents whose students attend.

          • agreed, and you are free not to chose that school just like they are free not to pick your family. but then, there is such a small number of spots and so many kids maybe you don't have that luxury

    • They don't think you're interesting, or will "add to the community". Something you did or said indicated disinterest or a hint of pita behavior to come.

      • Oh yeah. Remember being on a tour for preschools and this mother kept talking about how her daughter's preschool didn't taking the bullying seriously enough. The psd wrote down her name and I'll guarantee her son didn't get in.

        • I guess it didn't occur to the PSD to tell the parent about her school's policy regarding bad behavior? Assuming that she had one?

        • An interview is no time to get on a soapbox, but is it any wonder that certain schools get a reputation for bullying, or at least for tolerating bad behavior, if people are afraid to come forwawrd?

    • not understanding the school, projecting values that the school doesn't hold up, not appearing to know the child, not showing interest in what is in front of them. Other than that, it's probably all within a range of decent to good.

      • ita. and people who are like this have no idea that they are this way. and then there was the UB story a number of years back about the couple who walked into the interview and the husband used to "see" the admissions person and it had not ended well...

        • And it tells you something about the school if: 1) the admissions person sought revenge, and 2) if she got her revenge by using an innocent kid. Just saying ...

    • My DH got into a pissing match with a DOA who was so rude to us from the moment we walked in the door. She was so condescending! After suffering through the interview my DH said "There is no f*cking way we are sending our kid here!"
