      • also, bone age shows 1yr 9mo delayed. how reliable is that reading?

        • np: It is reliable. And (correct me if I'm wrong OP), doesnt delayed bone age mean that the kid just as constitutional growth delay- as opposed to him being very small for his age but his bones show that he is right on track in bone growth? I thought THAT is what meant the kid had an issue with his growth that needed intervention. Delayed bone age just meant that the kid was going to catch up later rather than sooner?

          • that's what she's telling me. he's slated to be 6 foot tall if she's right (not really but according to his bone-age height percentile, so you know...) i'm just wondering how much art there is to guessing the bone-age. is it really 1-year-9-months or is it more like 1 year or is it 24 months? probably, there's a lot of room for error.

            • np: The accuracy depends on how old your child is and the bone age. How old?

                • Then there's still quite a bit of room for error. Maybe give or take 6-9mo on both sides. I'm not sure exactly, but just wait and see what happens at your next bone age scan. There's not much you can do about it anyway.

            • why are you wondering about growth hormones if he is likely to be 6 feet tall? that's pretty tall...

        • np: It is not reliable at 1yr and 9mo. Your endo should have told you that. Until your child is somewhere in the 7yo bone age range, their final heigh cannot be predicted with great accuracy. After that, they are pretty good at predicting within 1 in. How old is your child? If bone age is delayed, it just means that they will catch up, so it is a good thing.

          • no, he was 6years and 9 months when his bone age was determined to be 1year 9 months delayed. so i am wondering if that's right or she could be off quite a bit and he's only 1 year delayed or 2 years delayed, etc.

        • i just went in for initial consultation. she pretty much blew off any talk of giving hormones. read his bone age. said he was fine (which he is but we don't want him to be short b/c he's already talking about how he hates being the smallest kid in school) and no, she won't give hormones to him, it won't make him grow anyway. thanks and $450 please. i was kind of pissed but since he's determined to be 1 year 9 months behind, it might be ok to just let him grow later and not bother with more endocrinologists (including) her for a few more years. but i do feel bad that he hates being so small.

    • How much should I let my 1 and 2YO eat? The 1YO weighs more than the 2YO. They eat constantly - like teenagers. I was reading some portion sizes on a nutrition blog and now think I'm a horrible mother. They are VERY active kids - constant running, climbing. 2YO is a bit hyper active. He's moving even when relaxing..

    • I should probably ask my own ped this, but since you're here...10 mo db is really good at solid food but only drinks 10-16 oz of formula every day. This has been going on for a month (before that she was nursing and I didn't know the number of oz). She drinks a few oz of water too. She's been sliding down the weight charts since she was 4 months old (90th to 25th) but is holding steady at 75% for height and head and is ok on milestones. Is this something to worry about?

      • I wouldn't worry for now but keep an eye on his weight. Follow up in a month for serial weight checks. 75% for height and 25% for weight can be concerning. I would mentiont this to your PMD and have them do some blood work etc.

    • I was giving my son a bath last night and discovered a hard bump on the top of his head, near the back. I don't know if it's there because he just bumped his head, or if it is a potentially bad thing. It is hard and feels like skull. I am 99% sure it wasn't there before and has appeared within the last week or so. Should I wait and call the ped on Monday if it's still there? I feel like the nurse will roll her eyes at me if I call now.
